Rahe donated a bench to Lone Star Primary School. A plaque on the bench reads, “In Memory of Warner O. Rahe and in Appreciation of His Years of Service to Children, 1937-1971.” Mr. Rahe was a teacher and principal at Lone Star “County School." He was an educator for 42 years—34 of those years at Lone Star. Wonsik ■ Col. J.M. Wonsik, a native of San Antonio, assumed command of the U.S. Army Engineer District in St. Paul, Minn., in a change of command ceremony there on July 12. Wonsik is the 56th district engineer. Before going to St. Paul, Wonsik served as special assistant to the Commanding General, U.S. Army Combined Arms Center at Fort Leavenworth, Kan. A career Army engineering officer with more than 24 years of service, Wonsik has served in a variety of assignments in the U.S. and overseas. He has commanded the 23rd Engineer Battalion at Hanau, Ger many. This is his second assignment to a Coips district. During 1978-81, Wonsik served as a construction engineer with the Walla Walla District’s Lower Snake River Resident Office in Clark ston, Wash. Wonsik is registered as a professional engineer in Texas and Washington. He attended UT where he earned a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering and a master’s degree in civil engineering. Wonsik received his Corps of Engineers commission in May 1970 and entered active duty in April 1971. He is married to the former Curtiss Bridges, of New Braunfels. They reside in Woodbury, Minn. ■ Jason Lance Patrick, of New Braunfels, and Kristin Lea Wertz, of Canyon Lake, both sophomores at Baylor University, were named to the university’s Dean’s Academic Honor List for the spring 1995 semester. To be named to the list, students must be undergraduates maintaining a minimum grade-point average of 3.7 while enrolled in a minimum of 12 semester hours. ■ Three New Braunfels residents were among students named to the Dean’s Honor List at Texas Christian University for the 1995 spring semester. This recognition cites undergraduate students for academic achievement. To qualify, a student must have been enrolled in a minimum of 12 semester hours and have earned an exceptional grade-point average. Area students honored are: Peter Bryan Allen, freshman engineering major and son of Mrs. Boni Allen; Susan Jeanette Doherty, sophomore arts and science pre-major and daughter of Dr. Mike Doherty; and William Shawn Jurica, sophomore computer science major and son of Mr. and Mrs. Pete Jurica. All are graduates of New Braunfels High School. ■ Tina Cornelison, of New Braunfels, a psychology major at Howard Payne University in Brownwood, was named to the university’s Dean’s List for the spring 1995 semester. To be named to the Dean’s List, a student must have earned a grade-point average of between 3.65 and 3.99 during the semester. ■ First Commercial Bank President Robert Orr announced the election of Rita S. Kaufmann as vice president and manager of First Commercial Bank in New Braunfels. “Rita will open our new banking service in New Braunfels at 654 Landa to the public on Monday. Aug. 7, 1995.” Bank Sr. Vice President Joe Har-tigan said, “We are delighted to have Rita join First Commercial with her great, 26-year record of banking service to families and business owners in Kaufmann Comal County. These are the folks our bank is built to serve. She has a full record of service in our community with leadership roles in the chamber’s Shadow Program, as one of the first HOSTS volunteers, and as an officer, director and co-chair of the fund drive to build the Comal County Women’s Shelter.” Kaufmann is the daughter of Harley and Rose Schulz. She is a graduate of Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic School, New Braunfels High School and the chamber’s Leadership Program. Her daughter, Becky, is a junior at Texas A&M-KJngsvilie.
