for regular office hours on Monday However many will be closed on Tuesday All city and county offices will be closed Tuesday in observance of Indepen dence Day Local banks will also be closed The sanitatipn department will be open and garbage collection will follow its reg ular schedule The Post Office will also be closed on Tuesday July 4 The New Braunfels Her office will be iclosed on Monday and open on Tuesday Flood of tourists splash and tube through city By DEMISE DZIUK Staff Writer The Guadalupe River should be flooded this weekend However it wont be flooded with water Itll be flooded with tourists and river con ditions should be ideal for an exciting weekend Bill West GuadalupeBlanco River Authority general manager said the GBRA will be releasing about 400 cubic feet per second of water begin ning at 8 Friday June 30 and will continue releasing that amount through the Fourth of July This is an excellent allpurpose recreation said West It pro vides tubers with water for an exhila rating ride and is also good for rafting and Although heavy rains were experi enced on Wednesday and Thursday the amount of water released probably will not change drastically However if additional rains are experience runoff could occur which would cause the river to rise People need to keep an eye on the weather and remember that rising rivers could be a possibility said Judy Gardner Public Communications Assistant Zero Rivers owner of Rockin R said the river conditions would be ide al for the weekend He said there are only two areas that need particular attention He said the rapids will be very swift at Huaco Falls and there will not be room to go under the Gruene Bridge He also said that the river was a little muddy on Thursday due to the rains Im looking at it right now Its not too bad and it should be back to normal by the time people starting getting on the he said Rivers said outfitters are expecting a busy weekend He said most places will be filled to capacity on Saturday and Sunday and will have a really great Friday Monday and Tuesday Well be having a double week end in volume A lot of businesses will do more on the Fourth of July than they do in your depth or dis tance Avoid swimming alone Use the buddy Dont dive into unfamiliar waters and always enter feet first Never allow children near the water alone Use life jackets approved by the Coast Guard Water recreation and alcohol do not mix Protect your feet with sneakers or watersheds Wear sunscreen sunglasses and a hat for protection from sunburn Glass and foam containers are pro hibited on the river Leave the water if a storm threat ens or if there is lightening Boaters should check the motor fuel and equipment before leaving the dock and watch for swimmer and skiers in the water Nation
