sweeps Houston HOUSTON AP As the Houston Rockets close in on a second consecutive world championship sports fans in the nations fourthlargest city are finally getting used to the sweet taste of success Many fans deprived of bragging rights for decades until last year have grown downright boastful about the defending NBA champs and not without good reason Houston took a commanding 20 lead in the bestofseven NBA Finals with a II7106 victory over the Orlando Mag ic Friday night and headed home with hopes of closing out the series at The Summit Game 3 is Sunday Were not coming bragged an exuberant Rockets fan who trekked to Orlando for Game 2 Bring the brooms out to The Summit Were going to clean em The confidence is a stark contrast to the wellwarranted pessimism Houston sports fans have long held about their teams After all the biggame collapses by the football Oilers baseball Astros and even the Rockets fans had gotten used to rooting for alsorans Even last year during the Rockets drive toward Houstons first major sports title fans were bracing themselves for yet another letdown All that has changed now with trepidation evolving into unbridled joy The Bayou City is dripping with red and gold Rockets garb is flying off retail shelves sports bars report booming busi ness and placards reading Go Rock Believe It and Twoston are pasted on car windows all over town Last year the fans thought they wen going to let them down again but this year it seems like the fans are more con said John Black 20 a lifelong Rockets fan This year theyre stick ing with them all the way I think its going to be a total Ken Burrough has experienced the change in attitudes firsthand as both an athlete and a fan The former AllPro receiver played for the Oilers during their Luv Ya Blue days when they twice failed to get past the Pittsburgh Steelers for a Super Bowl berth Catfish easier caught in muddy water Keith Warren Much of Texas has recently received heavy rains Many Lakes and rivers have muddied up This rapid change in water clarity changes the way fish feed Most of the time it will slow the bite down considerably unless you are tar geting catfish then you are in luck This is not to say that you cant catch catfish in clear water because you can But offcolored water is better every TRAINING CAMP from page 8 doing the best I can and letting the cards fall where they Coaches are giving Brown practice time at running back and fullback His strong receiving skills out of the back field work in his favor Alter trying his hand in the World Football League Brown said he decid cd his chances were better in the CFL I felt it would be best to try the CFL as opposed to the he said A lot of times the NFL will bring in a guy for training camp just to have someone to take repetitions with no intents of keeping Neal a surehanded target in the Longhorns passing game from 1991 93 was having a successful training camp before suffering an ankle injury this week Coaches expect him to con tend for spot upon his recovery Several other Longhorns have since left the camp Linebacker Bo Robinson was cut to make the 65man roster lim it and linebacker Kevin Waller retired alter reinjuring the same knee that plagued his sixyear career at UT Former Longhom quarterback Peter Gardere the man who hit Walker with that gamewinning pass over the Soon ers just missed his old teammates at camp A punter for the Goldminers in 199394 Gardere signed with the Memphis Mad Dogs after the season Walker is the veteran of the cur rent Texas contingent at camp Drafted in the eigth round by the Green Bay Fuckers he spent two years in the pros and at training camps with the Sacra mento Gold Miners and the Toronto Argonauts Like his three college teammates Walker feels he has a legiumate shot at making the team Basically for me its just a matter of gelling out here and being game he said 1 know 1 can catch the ball Ive always done that I just have to make sure 1 execute and learn ihe routes in order to put myself in position to make the time Catfish are present in virtually any body of water in the state They actual ly prefer muddy water for some rea son I am under the opinion that the mud particles in the water and the swift movement help the fish locate food through their senses of smell Blue catfish and channel catfish rely on their sense of smell to locate food This is why the more offensive the odor of the bait the better the results Yellow catfish prefer live bait over dead bait They rely on their limited vision to locate forage These yellow catfish are occasionally caught on dead bait Most of the time it is when you have a baited hole and theres a lot of action from channels and blues The yellows will be attracted because of the other fish in the area not the bait you are using Summer is a great time to take advantage of these easytocatch fish Now with offcolored water your odds of success have just gotten better Keith Warren is the host of
