The market was part of Hummelfest, which continues today with a special Mass on the steps of the museum at 9 a.m. A Salute to Sister Hummel/Birthday Celebration follows at 10:30 a.m. ($5 per person). Alice Marie Payne Alice Marie Payne, of New Braunfels, passed away Thursday, May 18, 1995 at Metropolitan Hospital at the age of 65. She was bom April 21,1930 in Tyler, Texas to Imon G. and Adele (Griffon!) Brantley, and married Eugene (Pete) Payne in 1969. Survivors include her daughters, Dorenda May and husband Harry, Regina Gilger and husband William, Dorin-da Bustamante and husband Rudy; sons, Benson Griffin and wife Marga, Clifford and wife Kathy; IO grandchildren, Emily, Jenifer, Dana, Benson Jr., Dorothy, Doak, Mara, Jenna, Erin and Kintana; 2 great-grandchildren, Alysa and Sarah. A graveside service was held on Sat urday, May 20 at IO a.m. at Memory Lawn Memorial Lawn in San Marcos, Texas. Rev. Howard Thrift officiated. Visitation was Friday at Thomason Funeral Chapel in San Marcos. When a mother dies, she must face God with her record of accomplishments. If she’s done a good job of caring for her children, she’ll get the most sought-after position in heaven—that of rocking baby angels on soft, white clouds and wiping their celestial tears with the comer of her apron. Virginia W.Bourland Virginia W. Bourland of New Braunfels died Saturday, May 20, 1995 at McKenna Memorial Hospital at the age of 66. Mrs. Bourland will be cremated and a private graveside service will be held at a later date. There will be no visitation. 7di 7 SFUN, funeral home Park ranger duties, skills to be learned at Park Ranger Camp in Landa Park Holder announces candidacy Comal County Sheriff position Youths between the ages of 11 and 17 may develop an understanding of local park ranger duties, responsibilities, job skills and tasks during the New Braunfels Parks and Recreation Department’s Jr. Ranger Camp in Landa Park. They will also explore the natural world, visit the Comal Springs and historical city park areas, learn basic environmental citizenship and participate in various activities — environmental projects, outdoor sports, games, hikes, movies, adventure, swimming, etc. The Jr. Ranger Camp will be held on July IO, 11 and 12 from IO a.m. to 5 p.m. Pre-registration is required and is being taken at the parks office from May I to July 7. The fee is $35 per person. For more information, call the park office 608-2160. us*} Bob Holder Former Highway Patrol Supervisor Bob Holder is formally announcing his candidacy for the position of Comal County Sheriff. Holder will be running in the Republican Primary, which will be held in March 1996. Holder is    51 years of age, and has lived in    the New Braunfels, Comal County area for the past 18 years. Holder states that if elected, he will administer a “Proactive rather than a Reactive” style of leadership within the Sheri fF s Department, both with the employees and the citizens of Comal County. “Let’s get back to basics so that we can better serve our citizens with courtesy, service and protection, which is the foundation for effective law enforcement,” Holder said. Holder states his commitment to the citizens of Comal County is to bring a level of professional leadership to the Comal County Sheriffs Department that meets the needs of today’s law enforcement, and the community it serves. Holder served as the supervisor of Highway Patrol Operations in Comal County from March 1977 through Texas Natural Festival today Join the San Marcos community today for the final day of the Texas Natural Festival, celebrating San Marcos and Texas. He lists his affiliations as a member of the FBI National Academy Associates, the Department of Public Safety Quarter Century Club, the Guadalupe Valley Peace Officer’s Association (past president), New Braunfels Crime Stoppers (current board member), Comal County Republican Men’s Group, the Masonic Lodge, the American Association of Retired Persons, and the New Braunfels Noon Lions Club. Holder had a 28 year career with the Texas Department of Public Safety, and currently holds a commission as a special Texas Ranger for the DPS. He also holds a Master Peace Officers Certificate from the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement Officer Standards and Education. Holder received his formal education at Mira-Costa College in Oceanside, Calif., Austin Community College in Austin and Midwestern State University in Wichita Falls. He was nominated and selected as the first DPS uniformed officer in Texas to attend the FBI National Academy in Quantico, Va., where he graduated in Dec. 1981. He is currently a graduate candidate for the Bill Blackwood Law Enforcement Management Institute (Sam Houston State University in Huntsville), and has completed the Texas Governor’s Management Training Program. Prior to joining the DPS in 1967, Holder served four years in the Marine Corps.
