Michael Vestal competed in secondgrade boys freestyle swimming at Landa Park Pool on Thursday during the 8th annual Schools Pool Day Rotary Swim Races The event was sponsored by the New Braunfels Rotary Club and the Parks and Recreation Department Retamas New Braunfels Stakes has hopes for Fayes Wish SAN ANTONIO If trainer Tom Amoss has his wish Faycs Wish will find much easier company in Saturdays New Braunfels Stakes and pre sent the talented Louisiana trainer his second stakes victory at Retama Park in two weeks Highlighted by the addition of Faycs Wish The New Braunfels Stakes wijl feature a talented group of 12 fillies arid mares competing at a distance of one mile on Retamas turf course Robert Sabinskes Fayes Wish ships to San Antonio from Kentucky with a solid record on the ttirf three wins in four races But her last venture over the Keenland turf course a fifthplace finish in the Palisades Stakes on April 20 proved to be a task even Amos admits was a bit ambitious There were some serious horses in the said Amoss who won his first stakes race at Retama Park on May 6 when Empire Pool proved victorious in the Julep Cup That was the first time Id run her since New Orleans Fair Shes a very nice devel oping horse But to have put her in against those was a bit tough Were just fortunate that Retama Park and Louisiana Downs offers good grass races that we can spot our horses Amoss said the pace as well as the competition in the Palisades didnt suit his threeyearold Chromite filly The winner of the race Miss Union was Amoss said from his bam at Churchill Downs
