hats off to excellent local talent plus the staff at the theatre Not able to attend the last 10 years we recently saw the Orphans on the What a wonderful pro duction Thank you all Bruce and Harold Boettcher New Braunfels Truth about recycling is that It doesnt pay Dear Editor I see that you finally had the fortitude to publish the truth about curbside recy cling in the article Making Recycling more an analysis The title is misleading It should be Recycling Doesnt Quotes Recycling costs lots of money New York for example is cutting funding for police schools and transit services which goes to support a premium of million over the cost of landfilling to collect and process 15 percent of its house hold trash for To reach 25 percent would cost another 100 mil lion Municipal leaders in many localities are coming to the same conclusion that as an environ mental feelgood has been greatly over Enthusiasm for recycling has outrun its economical viability Curb side recycling is particularly ineffi study by KAB Keep Amer ica Beautiful shows that recycling adds to the cost of solid waste man agement by to per The overall needs of the community must be considered Could the many dollars being spent on recycling be better spent on more policemen park patrols higher wages for city employ ees and many other good causes Recycling should not be seen as an end in Rather the overall needs of the city should be considered Enthusiasm for recycling has outrun its economical Dropoff programs are often more economical and more efficient Two thirds of newspapers that are recycled come from dropoff programs Only onethird are picked up at curbside despite the widespread use of curbside recycling There is no reason to treat the collection of bottles cans and news papers as an untouchable Thank you for publishing this worth block while article Loyd W Piester New Braunfels Comments In militia article called treasonous Dear Editor I am 94 years of age and legally blind but still have a sound mind and love and respect our country our emment and our highest leaders With all my being I resent the article you ran in the HeraldZeiMng Militias expect crackdown in wake of Personally I think there should be something doneabout the remark you printed that the government pulled off the bombing A person thinking such a thing much less voicing it and an edi tor printing it as good news for us to hear deserves to be tried for treason Every redblooded American should withdraw from such1an organization and be absent from their meetings There are too many people with dis turbed minds and others disloyal to our country for such to be read by them Godipity us if we dont rally around our government and punish those who bomb innocent people Curtis Mollie Simmons New Braunfels High speed chases endanger innocent lives Dear Editor Again we read where another acci dent has taken place due to officers chasing lawbreakers in a high speed chase A recently published book is entitled The Death of Common It does appear that so many things that used to make common sense no longer appear to do so It takes com mon sense to know that when two cars are weaving between lanes of law abiding travelers on the road and the two cars are traveling at 100 mph that this is sooner or later going to cause a dreadful accident usually killing or maiming one or more and more often than not it is usually an innocent driver who just happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time In this case fortunately if one can say it hap pened to be the unlawful driver who was killed But it so easily could have turned out another way Wouldnt it have been more pro ductive to send a radio message on ahead to other officers to set up a road Sincerely Mrs Smith Canyon Lake Outgoing club pro receives high praise Dear Editor It was with regret that we read of the resignation of Bill Halbcrt as man ager and club pro of the Landa Park Golf Course We have lived in New Braunfcls over 40 years enjoyed playing the golf course and feel it is in better shape now than in many years It is difficult to maintain a public course that is soI popular not only with local residents but also many visitors to the city We hope the city council and staff will continue to keep the course in as good condition as it is now It is a valu able asset to the entire community We would like to express our apprecia tion along with many other golfers of Mr Halbcrts expertise leadership and hard work over the past 14 years We wish him well in his future endeavors Ian and Winkle Walker New Braunfels 10
