New Braunfels Herald Zeitung (Newspaper) - April 30, 1995, New Braunfels, Texas 10 A ■ Herald-Zeitung ■ Sunday, April 30,1995Sports DayHerald-Zeitung photo by MICHAEL DARNALL Hector Molina had 3 RBI in New Braunfels' 13-1 thrashing of Bastrop on Friday. New Braunfels clinches playoff berth By THOMAS GODLEY Sports Editor New Braunfels wrapped up its second straight playoff berth in impressive style Friday night at Bastrop, scoring seven runs in the first inning en route to a 13-1 win. Unicom pitcher Jeff Gonzales scattered three hits and notched his seventh win of the season without a loss. NB Coach Neal Miller said the victory, which keeps the Unicorns tied for first place with Hays, removes some pressure heading into the final game of the season at home. "We’re guaranteed a playoff spot now," Miller said. "It's been a long time since we've played a game on our field. We’re looking forward to coming home and hopefully ending the season with a win that would give us at least a share of the district championship." * Should New Braunfels and Hays end the season in a tie, the teams would either have a playoff or flip a coin to determine their next opponents. The Unicorns look to keep the momentum going from Friday's rout. Hector Molina sparked the first-inning surge, getting a single and crossing home plate on a double by Johnny Reyes. Erie Martinez' single brought in Reyes and Jesse Delgado to make it 3-0. Bradley Clark then hit an RBI single, and Ryan Villareal got a run-scoring hit that put the lead at 5-0. Molina made it 7-0 on a single that drove in Villareal and Jeremy Moeller.
