New Braunfels Herald Zeitung (Newspaper) - March 2, 1995, New Braunfels, Texas 2 ■ Herald-Zeitung ■ Thursday, March 2,1995 GERA chairman names Walker to committees Directors of the Guadalupe-Bianco River Authority (GBRA) have recently been appointed to the Board’s standing committees for 1995. T.L. Walker, of New Braunfels, will serve as Chairman of the Ethics Committee and a member of the Audit, Long Range Planning, and retirement and Benefit Committees. Walker was appointed to his first six-year term as a GBRA Director from Comal County in April, 1994 by Gov. Ann Richards to complete the unexpired term of former Director Olga Lara of New Braunfels. In announcing the committee appointments, GBRA Board Chairman Bill Black-well commended Walker as an “effective and hard-working committee member who will continue to represent the Board and his constituents in Comal County with enthusiasm and dedication.” In addition to their regular duties, GBRA Directors work closely with employees, state and local elected officials, and citizens of die Guadalupe River basin to share information and plan for future water resource needs. Appointments are made annually by the Board Chairman who also serves as an ex-officio member of each committee. The Audit Committee works closely with the GBRA staff and independent auditors employed by GBRA to determine and make recommendations to the Board of Directors regarding fiscal policies, procedures and practices, and the annual audit. The Ethics Committee establishes and reviews standards of conduct for Board members, and reviews compliance with state regulations. The Long Range Planning Committee studies the growth patterns and needs within the GBRA watershed, including water quality and water supply issues, and proposes plans of action to the Board to meet increased demands for water in the future. The Retirement and Benefit Committee reviews and makes recommendations regarding all aspects of GBRA employee retirement programs and benefits. Walker, a native of Alice, is a Regional Director for the Victoria Bank and Trust system. He graduated from high school in Aurora. Missouri, and received degrees from the American Institute of Banking in San Antonio, and the Southwestern Graduate School of Banking at Southern Methodist University. He is a member of the American Institute of Banking, the Bank Administration Institute, and the Texas Bankers Association. Walker is president of the New Braunfels Industrial Foundation, and a member and past president of the Noon Lions Club, the Optimist Club, the New Braunfels High School Athletic Boosters, and the Greater New Braunfels Chamber of Commerce. He is a former director of the Community Fund and serves on the External Advisory Committee of the Texas Department of Transportation and the Industrial Development Loan Committee of the Texas Department of Commerce.Bereavement Support Group can help grieving survivors If you have lost a loved one, you are probably going through a period of grieving. The support and understanding that others in the same situation can provide you is very helpful. There is a support group to help recognize and understand the grief process, and help prevent extremes of depression and its effects on the bereaved. The group meets on the third Thursday of each month.
