Under the Stars NBISD photos by LESLIE KRIEWALDT Nationally known author and Illustrator team Janice and Tom Shefelman visited Memorial Elementary school recently to talk about their six books and the writing process To a crowded library full of children and parents Janice explained how she developed story ideas while Tom showed how his sketches become book illustrations While they talked to one grade at a time the other grade was in the school gym camping out under the Second and third graders dressed in their pajamas read with their parents and teddy bears and snuggled with pillows in sleeping bags School librarian Ginni Smith organized the sue cessful night of reading and learning At far left Janice and Tom Shefelman autograph a book for Alysia Koepp At left a couple of giggling young readers share a book Above Scott Ogden and his daughter Maggie view slides of Toms work while other young sters watch with them NBHS has hoop dreams against the Cowboys Sure theyve won the Super Bowl a few times but how do the Dallas Cowboys stack up against the New Braunfels High School faculty in bas ketball They and the public will find out Monday March 20 at 7 in the Unicorn Gym The benefit basketball game is organized by the NBHS StudentCoun qil Offered through the Score Points Against Drugs program the game promises to be a fun contest to watch Tickets go on sale Wednesday March 1 at the high school at 8 The ticket buys you an up close and personal look at the Cowboys on the Four marquee players are prom ised to be among the Cowboys tempo rarily trading in the pigskin for a roundball A 15minute autograph signing ses sion is scheduled during the halftime break Among the players on the faculty team are coaches Cliff Wilkins Vic tor Sierra Noel Hansen Larry Schulte color classes Word processing and water color classes are about to begin and they offer students a range of class dates On Monday Feb 27 Loretta Henk will begin teaching Word Perfect The class will meet on Mondays and Thursdays from 79 at New Braunfels High School in Room C54 Students will learn how to create for mat and edit documents Tuition is with a lab and materials fee The instructor will teach the class only if a minimum of 12 students sign up so call now to reserve your place in the class Intro to Word Perfect taught by Paulette Kelly begins April 4 and continues through May 3 on Tuesdays and Wednesdays Class meets from 7 in Room C55 of New Braunfels jHigh School Whether you are learn ing Word Perfect for the first time or if you want to upgrade programs the class includes novice and intermedi ate level lessons No more than 18 students will be accepted and a minium of 12 students is necessary to offer the class Tuition is with a lab and fee Students are required to preregister and pay a deposit on the class From March 2 to April 13 Sarah J Wetz will teach the technique of water color Meeting on Thursday from 79 class gets underway in the v VEH basement classroom
