The New Braunfels Republican Women will hold their monthly luncheon and meeting Monday, Feb. 20, at noon at Mo*y Joe’s Restaurant. The guest speaker will be attorney David Morgan. The focus of his talk will be past presidents. Guests welcome. The Eagles Auxiliary will meet Feb. 20 at 7:30 p.m. Officers meet at 7 p.m. The George A Garcia VFW Post 11060 wi hold its ninthly meeting Feb. 21 at 7:30 p.m. at the American Legion Post #179 on Coll St. The Canyon Lake Retired Teachers will meet in regular session Monday, Feb. 21 at 9:30 a m. at the Rio Raft Conference hall. NBHS senior wins Historical Orations Contest to America today. Recce is a member of the National Honor Society, is Captain of the 1994-95 football team and coached the flag football team. He is presently a member of the Children of the American Revolution. He plans to attend Texas A&M University upon graduation. His winning speech was “The Battle of King’s Mountain.” He told of the determination and bravery of the heroes of that battle, and stressed the need for leaders with such characteristics in America today. Reece will compete in the Regional Contest prior to the State and National Contests. Reece Orr receives his award. Reece Orr, a New Braunfels High School senior, is the first place winner of the recent William Hightower Chapter, Sons of the American Revolution Orations Contest. The “Joseph S/Rum- baugh Historical Orations Contest” requires an original oration dealing with an event, person or document within the context of the Revolutionary War, showing the relationship it bears Navarro PTO speaker to address teen health issues The Navarro PTO will meet Tuesday. Feb. 21, at 7 p.m. in th Elementary School Cafeteria. Parents will have a chance to hear Don Hale, one of the speakers who will conduct Navarro's Adolescence Focus Week in March. Hale has conducted sessions with teens on male responsibility and building healthy relationships in schools in Giddings and Austin. The meeting for parents and the community will provide information on the purpose and content of the Adolescence Focus Week. Topics to be covered will be: decision-making skills, abstinence, peer pressure/alcohol/drugs teenage pregnancy, and sexually transmitted diseases inlcuding HIV/AIDS.
