check for to representatives of the Lone Star Girl Scout Council Receiving the donation are Alice Nofziger membership development executive and Bernadine Eaton a volunteer with the Lone Star Girl Scout Council Morethan 900 Girls Scouts and their families attended the park during Lone Star Girl Scout Days last year and Schlitterbahn donated a portion of each ticket to benefit area troops The event will be repeated Aug 26 and 27 this year Entries needed for Capitol parade State Representative Edmund Kuem pel announced today that the State Preservation Board is searching for parade entries for the State Capitol Rededication The parade will include 100 to 120 participants from across the state and is scheduled for April 21 Each parade entrant must represent Texas or Texas history in some way Categories include historical eques trian musical military dancers and a miscellaneous category for the dis tinctly Texas entry There arc several guidelines that must be met by all parade entrants to receive a copy of the guidelines call Paige Cooper at Kuempels office 512 4630602 Deadline for entry is Feb 1 Skat league plans big event at Goerkes An entire week of skat activities are planned around the Texas State Skat Leagues 3rd annual international rules WINTER SKAT TOURNAMENT to be held on Feb 11 12 at Goerkes near New Braunfels The tour nament is sanctioned by 1SPA International Skat Players Asso Entries have been received from British Columbia Alberta Saskatchewan Manitoba Ontario and Quebec as well as Oregon California Minnesota Wisconsin Ohio Florida and Texas Skat is the most complex mem ber of the Euchre family of card games and has been an element of the German culture which arrived in central Texas almost 150 years ago From a peak of over 700 players in the 1950s the state tournament has dropped to less than 100 in recent years The rea sons for the games decline are too many and varied to cover in a short article Skat is played in German clubs across Canada and along the west coast Seven local players recently participated in a tourna ment in Las Vegas which was sponsored by the San Diego club Tournaments will be held at var ious times with the largest two being the Canadian Open in Mon treal in April and the North American Open in Vancouver in late June and early July A special Texas rules tournament is planned in May as part of the Sesquicen tennial activities in New Braun fels The effort to save the game in Texas is continuing and anyone wanting to learn about or return to this interesting and challenging game in a friendly setting please by the New Braunfels Music Study Club Students may audi tion in Voice Instrumental Music or Dance Applications are available from the three high school band and choral directors and are to be submitted to Mrs Melitta Frueh Scholarship Chair by the deadline February 11 Audi tions will be March 4 at Seele Parish Hall A nonrefundable application fee of should accompany each appli cation Repertoire must be from advanced literature for example U1L or Fed eration Festival Advanced must include two contrasting styles and peri ods and the length should not exceed 10 minutes Dancers should prepare a program of classical ballet with a con trasting number of improvisatory or modern dance Music must be memo rized and all contestants should pro vide their own accompanist The auditions are
