Antonio College has completed its plans and begun the process of iden tifying the education and training needs of residents in New Braunfels and sur rounding areas Initiated after the Col leges decision to offer credit courses this spring semester this research pro ject will endeavor to identify the edu cational plans and needs of six dis tinct groups in the school seniors older adults business owners New Braunfels college stu dents the local labor force and non traditional students such as outof school youth homemakers and other underserved populations This effort initiated under the lead ership of Paul Fraser Mayor is being coordinated with the New Braunfels OffCampus Education Steering Com mittee Mr Bob Ristau serves as Chairman of this committee which is comprised of community leaders from business education local government and the general community The studys timeline calls for mail out surveys personal interviews and other group meetings to occur in Feb ruary Of special note is a forum being planned to help identify the educa tional needs and priorities of area homemakers A historically under served population in most communi ties the Steering Committee requested The New Braunfels Retired Teach ers Association will meet Feb 1 in the NBISD Education Center Board Room There will be fellowship cof fee and cookies beginning at The business meeting and program will begin at 10 with Mary Tymrak giving a slide presentation on her visit to the Czech Republic special attention be given to this group The benefits of the study are three fold For San Antonio College and other education providers findings will enable education officials to more effectively select programs and cours es add efficiency to the process and eliminate guesswork For the City of New Braunfels the study will provide valuable information for strategic planning economic devel opment and also provide direction for the mobilization of resources aimed at addressing educational needs Area residents stand to benefit as well Documented evidence of need and preference will ultimately result in education programs and services geared to particular needs and prefer ences A final report is to be published in April detailing findings conclusions and other recommendations Every one is encouraged to cooperate if asked to complete a particular questionnaire SPECIAL
