ArtBeat 95 is alive The first heartbeat was seen not heard when Committee members viewed the many entries in the logo design contest recently The winning entry a modem graphic design created by Rachel Shipley daughter of David and Carla Shipley will be used on Youth ArtBeat tshirts and programs Rachel an 8th grader at New Braunfcls Middle School is in the National Junior Honor Society and the Geography Club Her talent in graphic arts has been recognized in other competitions Rachel has been the statewide win ner in her age category in the Geogra phy Awareness Week Poster Contest in past years and her creative pieces have won ribbons at the Comal County Fair Another logo design of hers was select ed last year for the Habitat for Human ity tshirts Rachel plans to attend col lege and graduate school majoring in computer graphics Second place was awarded to Bonnie McLellan a 5th grader at Sts Peter and Paul School and daughter of David and Theresa McLellan of San Marcos Bonnie was not interested in art until second grade when she received an art award from a teacher who noticed her obvious talent Bonnie received the art award again in the third and fourth grades San Marcos Parks and Recre ation recently chose her entry for the Cycle San Marcos logo and used the design on tshirts Amanda Schneider a New Braunfels High School junior took third place using her favorite medium of ebony pencil to draw her entry depicting historic downtown New Braunfels Amanda daughter of Herb and Jackie Schneider was also a ribbon winner at the Comal County Fair Currently in Art III Amanda plans to pursue a career as an art teacher or in the design field in either interior design or archi tecture The honorable mention winner was the project of four secondgraders from Lone Star Elementary Kelsey Ford daughter of Terri and Steve Ford Heather Femandes daughter of Melva and Jerry Femandes Andrea Holden New Braunfels from Feb 1825 Stu dents interested in entering artwork should contact the art teacher at their school or the Main Street Office in the Municipal Building Dead line for entries is Friday February 10 The Youth ArtBeat 95 festival will be held on Saturday February 25 in downtown New Braunfels Entertain ment will include music instrumen tal or dance dramatics poetry more School groups and individuals are welcome to sign up Young people in the New Braun area something to tell others about They chose the palette for painting the staff for music and the ballet shoes for dance to show things that will hap pen on ArtBeat The design fea turing a drum was designed by Kelsey and Heather Andrea and Leanne joined them in bringing their artwork to completion The artwork is currently on display in the window at Henne Hardware in downtown New Braunfels Tshirts with Rachels colorful design will go on sale in early February The next event of Youth ArtBeat 95 is a student art show to be dis played in the businesses in downtown 1995 Cruise Alaska on
