New Braunfels Herald-Zeitung (Newspaper) - January 22, 1995, New Braunfels, Texas Sunday Jan A Dont exclude mobile home park residents from recy cling Dear Editor Your Sunday editorial was but incomplete Theres another reason for nohfjarticipation in exclusion of some households from the program I live in a mobile home community where we have individual garbage pickup and on the assumption that I was a part of the City of New Braunfels and would be recycling soon Ive been saving recyclables But I received no bin I called City Hall and was given the BFI1800 number which I called The person answering was not sure of our status and promised to have someone else call no one did I was unaware that a BFI represen tative was on the local Saturday radio program Comment until there was no time left to get in a call so no help there either Ive long been into recycling of one sort or another beginning with com posting wastes about 25 years ago I put out less trash than other singleperson households a good sign that I habitu ally conserve and recycle as I can Because I am among the underpriv ileged mobile home dwellers I find that Im not allowed to play the new game in town What do you we really have Recycle New Braun Ida Sing New Braunfels Lottery should have better odds Dear Editor When Texans voted to have a lotto it was mainly for the purpose of paying taxes to the state without feeling like a slave to taxes It was supposed to be helpful to the state particularly to edu cation What did Texas do They start ed being very piggish making the dol lar tickets pay off so one or two dollars and hogging the rest for the now it is almost impossible to win etc The odds are far too much in favor of Texas for anyone to enjoy The large Texas lotto should be limited also to winning no more than million per person That is enough for anyone dur ing a lifetime Also if one gets or 3 numbers that match that should start offbjy paying something like for 5 matches for 4 matches and for 3 matches I believe the sale of lotto tickets would triple or quadruple and there would not be such a reluctance to buy tickets If you agree with this please write to Governor Bush call the Texas Lotto at 180037 LOTTO or write to TEXAS LOT TO Box 16600 Austin TX 787526600 Texans want a not a state income tax where you sim ply become a slave to the downtrodden Slavery went out with Abraham Lin coln Kay Blackford New Braunfels Serold should have followed her own advice Dear Editor During the City Council meeting Jan 9 Councilwoman Mary Serold made a very profound statement con cerning the petition to recall Paul Fras er She stated that she believes in the petition process in general but when a petition is based on outright lies it causes more harm than good and demeans the petition Its unfortunate that she didnt follow this sage advice when she led the recall action against Dan Bremer Wib Amacher New Braunfels Recycling program has fatal flaws Dear Editor Recycling is a good idea however I am vehemently opposed to the pro gram begun recently for several rea sons First is my sympathy for families who need for better reasons than a months worth of cable as Ms Bush suggests on page 4 of the Jan 8th paper Second according to Roger Croteaus article on page 6 BFI will be paid a year for curbside recy cling Surely centrally located bins would have been a more economical plan If as Ms Bush so enthusiasti cally proclaims we wont be able to stop once were the difference in amount collected will be negligi ble if any Third by far the greatest amount of material to be collected from me is only yet I have been given an often useless bin If a cover could not be provided to protect paper from rain or heavy fog why oh why does the bin have holes in the bottom making placing papers under the bin impractical On overcast days or days when it might rain do you really expect me to keep the papers or run the risk of having to struggle with sodden news paper which BFI will not pick up I have neither a garage nor a covered shed where I might keep papers for a week or possibly more Am I the only one My purpose is not merely to com plain I realize we are stuck with the present program for three years but Id like to suggest the following Allow those who do not wish to be part of this program for financial or other rea sons to withdraw with the privilege of rejoining at any time Arent satisfied participants better than disgruntled ones And for Petes sake provide me with a cover for my useless bin Sincerely Juliette F Meyer
