New Braunfels Herald-Zeitung (Newspaper) - January 18, 1995, New Braunfels, Texas Wednesday Jan A Recycling off to bad start To the Editor New Braunfels1 Sesquicentennial year is certainly off to a bad start The new curbside recycling program has already defaced our lovely town There are unsightly blue bins lining the curbs and on front lawns and porches all over town Do we really need to create all this ugly visual pol lution Please everybody store your recycling bins in your garage indoors or somewhere out of sight and bring them in as soon as possible after the materials are collected AND if BFI handlers should spill cans newspapers or bottles on the street or lawns please pick them up Lets not sacrifice the neat appear ance of our neighborhoods for the benefits of recycling study by Franklin Assocs which works for the EPA reported in the Oct edition of the Wall St Journal that with onethird of homes already participating in curbside recycling only of the nations total trash volume is being diverted for recycling and that most residential programs are not cost effective Carol R Glanville New Braunfels Something smelled Dear Editor So those with hovering fingers over the cookie jar want to recall the Mayor Not odd really as Jim Mooney wrote a letter to the Editor a few months ago a bit thoughtprovoking that cast a shadow over NBUs hon esty in action Indeed coming events cast their shadows before them and reply to the can fool all the people some of the time but not all of the people all of the James Paul and Mary does sound like a singing trio but alas NBU Ticket Takers the game may be called on account of darkness When Advance Payments raised havoc at indeed the time had come to look under the hood in the trunk and under the seats Some thing smelled or should that be stinks Marc Herman New Braunfels Mornhinweg owed an apology not Serold Dear Editor I was very disappointed with the media coverage of Councilperson Mary Serolds attack on certain NBU Trustees Your reporter and Don Ferguson of KGNB edited their accounts so that Gene Mornhinweg looked like the bad guy when in fact he was only responding to Mrs Serolds referring to him Mr Orr and Mr Castillo as a bunch of unbehaved dogs Isnt it funny how she man aged to omit her friends Paul Fraser and James Goodbread from her attack How would you respond if an elected person in an open meeting called your newspaper a piece of trash or referred to it as a gossip rag Would you be as polite as Mr Morn hinweg and simply say Thank you for those unkind I think Mr Mornhinweg is the one owed an apology not Mary Serold Rosanne Keeton New Braunfels Stop blaming the gun owners Dear Editor Concerning the antihunting anti gun crowd in our state and country who constantly blame guns and all gun owners for all the woes and vio lence in our country I would like to add my thoughts to this issue We are members of the fifth gen eration Texans of German descent Our lineage in this great state goes back to and includes the Civil War in which our greatgrandfather Casper Moos a gunsmith and his brother Robert were members of the 7th Mounted Texas Volunteers of New Braunfels They fought in many battles and one was even wounded Since that time one or more of our family members have served in every war including WWI WWII Korea and Vietnam which includes this writers service in Korea from 19501954 My point is there has never been a mishap acci dent holdup of our neighbors or anything that would indicate irre sponsibility or worse unfamiliarity with firearms by any member of our proud and long heritage While the gunhaters and hunter haters live a very good and protected life it is that hated inanimate object the gun that helped feed and protect them their forebears our state and country for many generations This clearly indicates that it is absolutely not the gun but the uninformed and the liberal bleeding hearts who fall for the antigun propaganda In addi tion the irresponsible parent that does either not care knows not how to parent or thinks that parentage simply does not exist who does not take responsibility for the action of their kids or do not teach these kids to take responsibility for their own actions whose kids are running wild with an object they do not know how to use safely or do not realize the extent of damage they are inflicting with their driveby shootings and other gang activity I sincerely hope the new leader ship both state and federal takes into account the only way they can govern lead or eradicate this prob lem is to select for their cabinet only the most qualified people they can find Stop blaming the citizen gun owner hunter and average citizen who pays all the taxes fights all the wars and never complains and come down hard on the lawbreakers without mercy much as they have shown their victims Oh yes I am a proud member of the NRA and the American Legion Nonvin H Vogel Seguin CISD worked hard for bargain price Dear Editor I recently read that the CISD site selection committee has again select ed a future school site far removed from any population center Keeps their busing budget up I is hard on the kids that unnecessary two hours a day on the bus What really interested me was the terrific bargain the district hammered out for its taxpayers oops excuse not politically make that read Imagine getting 63 acres of prime Comal County ranchland for a mere By my calculations thats a steal at per acre Or maybe we are actually paying per acre as you reported Either way what a deal The committee chair man Scott Watson must have really worked hard to get us such a terrific price Especially considering that the going rate for prime tracts of that size is about half that price And the appraised value on the tax rolls was a whopping love stealing land at more than twice its appraised I think with this deal Scott Wat sons greatness is truly coming into the limelight Hes obviously too big a thinker for CISD or Comal County Heck hes too big for the great state of Texas Hes obviously cut out to be a Pentagon procurement officer in Washington where they have enough zeros behind dollar signs to accommodate his style Nine hun dred dollar hammers and toi let seats thats his ticket Unfortunately I think the liberal Democrats that control our school board elections and Republican pri maries in Comal County have other plans for Scott Dont be surprised if you see him on the ballot for Jumbo Evans seat on Commissioners Court next time around And if the true conservative Republicans continue to ignore the school board elections and the Republican primary dont be sur prised when he wins It wont be the biggoVernment liberals who vote in our Republican primary Thats their constitutional right Itll be the fault of all the Conservatives who stay at home And well all pay through higher taxes Sincerely Edwin K Nolan Dr Edward M Wuensch is pleased to announce he is assuming the family dental deal with some sort of suit or recall election This town just cant seem to elect someone and let that be that The first time an official does something we dont agree with or dont like we have to go and yank his chain People need to realize that there is no one on Gods green earth who can do everything in complete agreemenl with everyone When an official does something that is disagreed with we should speak out and keep speaking out until our message is received But to throw the whole council into limbo time after time just because weve disagreed with one person a few times and feel we have to recall them is utter non sense Get a grip New Braunfels Jane Mackey New Braunfels Hey New I found an all natural herb product Loose weight turn it to ENERGY Effective Simple Call Today 6O95772
