New Braunfels Herald Zeitung (Newspaper) - November 6, 1994, New Braunfels, Texas Sunday, Nov. 6, 1994 Rape Crisis Center thanks supporters . Dear Mr. Lyon, The Rape Crisis Center of Comal County would like to thank the following individuals and businesses for their generosity and support that enabled Riverfest ‘94 to be a success. A BIG thank you to: Zero Rivers, owner of Rockin’ R River Rides, for the use of his property, his invaluable assistance and helpful advice.: Johnny Dee and the Rocket 88s, Diamond Back, Quarter Moon, Rafter’s Rapid Grill, Wholesale Beers, The Volunteers who worked Riverfest ‘94, New Braunfels Smoker Co., Coleman Co. Inc., Gym-N-I Playgrounds, Schlitterbahn Waterpark & Resorts, Fancie Flowers, The Grist Mill Restaurant, The Dragon Place Restaurant, Darby’s Tropicals, Gary O’s Restaurant, Frijole’s Restaurant, Mouse’s Smokehouse, Gin’s Grocery, D & J Video, Rivercrest Drive-In, Shelly & Paul Goodwin, David King, Sheriff Jack Bremer, Judge Carter Casteel, Mark Lyon, Brenda Freeman. Our heartfelt thanks to everyone who helped make our fundraiser a success! David Friesenhahn, Chair Rape Crisis Center Texas needs Richard’s leadership Dear Editor, Ann Richards fought an uphill fight for Governor last election against a* Republican male who rudely refused to shake her hand. She has proven to be a person with leadership qualities along with good moral courage who stood up to the men of this state and beat them single handed and that is why many men are mad as heck at her! In may opinion, Ann Richards is and has been the best governor Texas has had in 50 years! She has brought style and more integrity and respect to the Texas governor’s office than any man who has held the office before her. She has the ability and heart to show passion toward poor people, homeless, and people who don’t have piles of money like opponent Bush who is filthy rich and who is suspected of being involved in the savings and loan downfall. Ann Richards also shows passion toward all races and colors openly and is a person who has struggled through life and come up the hard way. I don’t want a governor who fails to show passion. Jeb Bush has had it made since birth, how is he going to feel passion for the poor, homeless, suffering down and out people when he has never walked in their shoes!? To heck with voting strictly along party lines! President Bush was soft on crime and then kicked back and allowed the presidency to pass him by last time because he did not speak out, leaving Republicans stranded. Regardless, Ann Richards has done more for education, no matter what I hear people say She is not as tough on crime as I’d like but she’s working on that. I do not like ALL of the other major democratic vote seekers, I do like and support Governor Ann Richards And, she is not too old. I heard a 70-year-old man say a few weeks ago how old the Governor was and made a joke while at the same time he was so old looking with his wrinkled face that the governor looked like a spring chicken compared to him. He is like most people that make such remarks about other people who are mentally retarded and handicapped people. Sick! The governor brought the Lottery to Texas while others talked about it but did nothing. And, I’ve seen a lot of you Christians lining up buying tickets so let’s leave God out of it! If that’s your only sin, you will have no problem including celebrating Christmas. Geez. Finally, I’m glad to see more women win government leadership offices and hope the next president will be a woman. The men have held it too long and all they want to do is send us, not them, off to war. I suggest you women keep the governor in office and snag as many other leadership possessions as you can. Surely, you can’t screw things up as bad as some of my male counterparts. Maybe I’ll ask my wife to. run. Bush might nudge his way in but he sure will not get my vote. I smell a snake in the grass! Jerry E. Daugherty Spring Branch ERS Hie indignation off the ignorant Dear Editor, This letter is written in responses Marilyn Kolacek’s letter in your Wednesday Oct. 19 edition, in which she alleges that Mayor Fraser “breaks the law” and then wants the city to pay his attorney’s fees. I suggest, Ms. Kolacek, that you read Mr. Kahlig’s petition. There is no allegation in the petition indicating ANY wrongdoing by Mr. Fraser, let alone one as serious as breaking the law. As far as I know, the only one to suggest any wrongdoing by Mr. Fraser is YOU, Ms. Kolacek. The righteous indignation of the ignorant is truly amazing! Edwin K. Nolan Attorney for Mr. Fraser Doug Miller is respected in water negotiations Dear Editor, I have enjoyed watching San Antonio politicians tangle with water issues for years. They had to eat that Apple-white crow pie twice. They STILL don’t have a plan to supply water to their residents. By comparison, New Braunfels /Ti % Barnes 33ariay^ Jl£. 2). But now the hubris that often infects those in power has polluted the New Braunfels City Council. Doug Miller’s record speaks for itself. He is recognized by municipal, county and state leaders as a man who knows what he’s talking about and information is power. Keep Doug Miller as water resource representative for the City of New Braunfels. I want to go back to laughing at San Antonio again.
