New Braunfels Herald Zeitung (Newspaper) - October 5, 1994, New Braunfels, Texas Wednesday, Oct. 5,1994 ■ Herald-Zeitung ■ 5A LETTERS A long way from the dock to the rlverboat Dear Editor, “Get off the sinking river boat.” It is a long way from the dock to the riverboat casino. If you are handicapped, senior citizen, or pushing a wheel chair up those ramps. I have been there, Louisiana and Mississippi. They are all the same small overcrowded boats, so crowded it’s very hard to push a wheelchair around. As the old timers used to say, it’s like putting IO pounds of beans in a five pound bag. In Lake Charles, La., for a $40 motel/hotel room it’s $75 a night to get on the boat for three hours only. It was $5 days, $8 nights. It has changed now since the New Orleans and Shreveport boats to $5 Saturday, $2 week days, so if legislators are considering Riverboat, they better think twice regarding the handi capped and seniors who like to gamble too. Hershel J. Williams New Braunfels Reader thanks those who attended meeting Dear Editor, I wish to thank the rn ore than IOO visitors for coming to our Sept. 13 meeting. They are all volunteer militia members now and we need many more like them. We had several distinguished speakers including Mr. C. A. Stubbs, president of TACT. He commended us for our approach to again take back our runaway government A couple of our visitors expressed fear and shock from some of the I information they received telling about how things really are in our government We can all relate to this. Less than a year ago, I also had my head in the sand. One of the first things I did was join the NR A. We , all know 99 percent of Washington D.C is for sale to the highest bidder. I then joined TACT and CATS and others The next step is to cut off all of the national news media and even some of the local news that is feeding you only what they think you should know. They then twist that many times, to give it a different meaning. In the Sept. 21 Times Guardian Letters to the Editor a D. Miller wrote that he was proud of the patriots organizing our militia and he stated that 61 years of age might be too old. Wrong. If you can drag yourself to our meetings and rallies whether crippled, old, of any color, male or female, we need you. We need suggestions, help in many ways, support and mainly the numbers of active members to help intimidate our politicians. Without our pressure on them it will just be business as usual. The mere word “militia” frightens them and with thousands of volunteers we want to scare the hell out of them. Melvin L.
