New Braunfels Herald-Zeitung (Newspaper) - July 17, 1994, New Braunfels, Texas HtraJOftNung Sunday July SKY HIGH Johnny Canon goes up and back for a fly ball W fr 1 V VP PLATE PARTY Cody Ralmar of tha 12yearold Major gats mobbad attar a run PATOHIEEEE Javln Walker of the 10yearold National League AllStars chews em up and spits em out while watching some action The Boys of The crack of the bat is beginning to fade The sun flower seeds are just about to be out of season The batting gloves are about to let the last finger puncture its skin And the laces on the cleats are about to be tied for the last time All of this will happen when Little League allstar play comes to a close in a few weeks But one thing that will not go away is the memo ries Throughout this years all star tourna ments there have been several great performances outstanding athletic accomplishments and hours and hours of pure fun for the kids coaches parents and fans Those are the things that will not give way to the changing of a season The sight of Eric Sullemeier swatting home runs and pitching twohitters at the same time will not soon be forgotten The pain felt when Lockhart catcher Tommy Mendez was carried off the field after taking a base ball in the mouth Thats the kind of effort that wont fade or become worn like the pit of a glove Photos by TohnHuseth Brent Green surely wont be forgotten as he thoughts of his nohitter will be talked about around the National League Park for years to come Then there are the moments like the one when American AilStar 10yearold manager Tom Power got doused with a bucket of water after his team cap tured the District 31 North Zone title Now thats fun Or what a bout the sound of Jarred Fellers crush ing two home runs in a game Or his team mate Cody Reimer knocking homers in three straight games Then there is the sight of 30 or more youngsters standing on either foul line lypsynching the National Anthem and the Little League Pledge Every night win or lose the kids are ready to play Ready to step between the chalk lines and make memories for us all So when the final pitch is thrown the final out recorded and the lights are turned off on another Little League season All you can do is savor the memories Sean Burgess LETS TALK 10yearold National League Manager Doug Crow gives a little advice to his pitchsr Javln Walker right and his battery mate Tanner Baker BUBBLE GUM MAN Umpire Brett Westbrook offers Cody Chapman some getwell bubble gum FENCED IN LR Chad Manlaz Janmy Diaz Draw Snkfer and Nick Sotdel of the New Brauntela National League 12yearold AltStem am eager to get In the action YES Victor Rodriguez of the National League 11yearold allstars lets it all hang out PLASTIC MAN Jacob Martinez stretches to the limit trying to snag a ball up the middle ;
