number of major crimes in New Braunfels during May remained fairly stable compared to May of last year according to statistics released by the New Braunfels Police Department Major crimes numbered 257 in May This is up only three from May 1993 New Braunfels Police Chief Dick Headen said he does not see any sur prising drastic changes in Mays crime statistics Things right now are holding well We are now in our busiest he said We are having a banner year as far as tourists on the River More fam ilies are coming back to the rivers We are braced for the weekend com ing up but this summer has been real ly optimistic for said Headen Burglaries of nonhabitations showed a large increase in May 1994 The number of burglaries of nonhabi tations jumped from 11 in May 1993 to 33 in May 1994 Headen said part of this increase may be attributed to storage building burglaries Last week San Antonio police officers took Larry Don Arnold 36 of Houston into custody Arnold was allegedly involved in 27 burglar ies of storage buildings in rural areas of the county and 30 burglaries of storage buildings in the city limits of New Braunfels The only other categories showing increases were burglaries of a tion and incidents of theft and shoplift ing Burglaries of a habitation increased from nine to 12 Incidents and theft and shoplifting increased from 92 to 104 The following statistics compare May 1994 to May 1993 Total calls for service are up from to Total arrests were down from 220 to 201 Traffic accidents were up from 133 to 213 Murders were the same at zero Sexual assaults were down from four to zero Robberies were down from eight to zero Assaults were down from 77 to 76 Burglaries of motor vehicles were down from 36 to 26 All other burglaries coinoper ated machines were down from six
