by JOHN HUSETH Above Randy Gaiindo takes some time in his training to do some work on the crazy ball Gaiindo Is in training right now to make a comeback to boxing after a two year retirement above right Gaiindo works on his speed on what else but the speed bag below Hitting the crazy ball gives Gaiindo the coordination and concentration it takes to hit a quick opponent In the ring Gaiindo plans to step in the ring again in around 60 days At 25 years old Randy Gaiindo would seem like an average person to most peo ple He works an 8 to 5 job He has a fiance and is getting ready to start a family And he has a hobby But its that hobby that separates Gaiin do from the crowd Boxing Gaiindo who was bom in Los Angeles before moving to New Braunfels where he graduated from New Braunfels High School in 1987 retired from boxing two years ago after eight professional fights But boxing never left his mind and now at age 25 he is ready to pick up where he left off I started boxing when I was 10 years old in because my mom wanted to keep me off the streets and it just never left my he said Once youre a boxer youre a warrior I need to get back in the Gaiindo will be stepping back into some pretty big shoes In 1985 he brought home the Golden Gloves Championship and then turned professional at the age of 18 He was 521 as a pro and feels that with a little hard work he can get back to top form And once he does he plans to bring any glory for himself back to New Braunfels Im going to bring a bell back to New Braunfels before it is he said The people in New Braunfels have always been good to me and I take NB with me everywhere I go They deserve a cham Gaiindo started his training a few weeks ago and admits he has a long way to go before his first fight Right now he says he plans to fight again in about 60 days but he needs to drop about 1015 pounds first My first fight should be in a few Gaiindo said Right now Im just training as hard as I The training Gaiindo goes through is an everyday process He divides his work outs up around three different gyms with his main stay being the Perez Boxing Gym in San Antonio that is owned by his Perez The workouts are strenuous especial ly after a full day at work It starts with shadow boxing then he moves to the heavy bag the crazy ball the speed ball 1012 minutes of jump rope sirups and pushups Then he spars every Saturday night Its a lot of hard work and you have to be he said I have a goal to be a world champion and 1 am willing to work to get Speed is the key to the 58 150 pound Gaiindo in the ring He uses an array of dip moves to avoid being hit and open gaps for his own punches The name of the game is to keep from being Gaiindo said My advantage is my speed and In his last professional fight in 1990 Gaiindo battled Renaldo Ricardo in Detroit Ricardo recently lost to Olympian Oscar DeLa Hoya Like any fighter Gaiindo needs the respect and commitment from his loved ones as well as himself I could never do any of this without the support of my Gaiindo said My fiance Cynthia Hernandez has sup ported me in my comeback as well as the rest of my Whether his comeback attempt ends in a world championship or not Gaiindo has the ideas of success in his mind He wants to open a gym in New Braunfels to help the citys youth I want to give back to the community of New he said 1 want the kids to have an outlet from all the guns and drugs that are around Its never too early to start football fantasizing B aseball season is in full swing the NBA Playoffs are in the middle of a dream matchup between Hakeem and
