Stephenville. 15-0; Kacey Laughery, Fishing report By RICK DAVENPORT Associated Press AUSTIN (AP) — Here is the weekly fishing report as compiled by the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department for May 5: CENTRAL TEXAS BELTON: Water slightly off color, 67 degrees, normal level; black bass are excellent to 8 pounds on Kalin grubs, red deep diving cranks and jigs in 3-20 feet of water, hybrid striper are very good near Fireman’s Cove and near the sand flats on live bait; white bass are good mixed in with the hybrids; crappie are good on grubs and Fle-Flys, catfish are very good to 52 pounds with numerous other large fish on live perch and shad as the spawn gets underway. BROWNWOOD: Water clear, 58 degrees, 4 feet low; black bass are fairly slow due to the weather; white bass are good and coming to the surface during the day and are good at night under the lights on jigs and minnows; crappie are fair to 5 per stringer with most fish undersized, catfish are fair to 8 pounds on trotlines baited with live perch. BUCHANAN Water clear. 7 feet low, black bass are fair; crappie are fairly good on the North end near the river; striper are good at the North end on shad and perch; catfish are fairly good up the river on rod and reels CANYON: Water murky up river, 63 degrees. 6 inches low and rising, black bass are good to 9 1/2 pounds on large minnows and artificial baits, striper are fair to 15 pounds on silver spoons at various depths; crappie are good at night under the lights on medium minnows, yellow catfish are good to 18 pounds on perch and goldfish, other cats are good and improving on prepared baits and iver. COLORADO BEND Water is muddy. I feet low; black bass are slow, yel-ow catfish are fairly good to 18 x>unds on live baited trotlines. FAYETTE: Water clear, 80 degrees, 1 foot high; black bass are good to 6 pounds on top waters early and Carolina Rigged worms in shallow to 18 feet of water during the day; catfish are fair to 15 pounds on water dogs and live perch. GIBBONS CREEK: Water off color, 6 inches low, black bass are good to 9 pounds on topwaters and Carolina rigged worms at the back of Gibbons Creek and over main lake humps, crappie are fairly good to near limits at Sulphur Creek Point and near the intake on minnows; catfish are fairly good off the banks and on jug lines baited with shad.
