compiled by the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department for May 5 CENTRAL TEXAS BELTON Water slightly off color 67 degrees normal level black bass are excellent to 8 pounds on Kalin grubs red deep diving cranks and jigs in 320 feet of water hybrid striper are very good near Firemans Cove and near the sand flats on live bait white bass are good mixed in with the hybrids crappie are good on grubs and FleFlys catfish are very good to 52 pounds with numer ous other large fish on live perch and shad as the spawn gets underway BROWNWOOD Water clear 58 degrees 4 feet low black bass are fairly slow due to the weather white bass are good and coming to the surface during the day and are good at night under the lights on jigs and minnows crappie are fair to 5 per stringer with most fish undersized catfish are fair to 8 pounds on trot lines baited with live perch BUCHANAN Water clear 7 feet low black bass are fair crappie are fairly good on the North end near the river striper are good at the North end on shad and perch catfish are fairly good up the river on rod and reels CANYON Water murky up river 63 degrees 6 inches low and rising black bass are good to 9 pounds on large minnows and artificial baits striper are fair to 15 pounds on silver spoons at various depths crappie are good at night under the lights on medium minnows yellow catfish are good to 18 pounds on perch and goldfish other cats are good and improving on prepared baits and liver COLORADO BEND Water is muddy 8 feet low black bass are slow yel low catfish are fairly good to 18 pounds on live baited trotlines DECKER Water clear 65 degrees normal level black bass are excel lent to 8 pounds on dark worms in 4 feet of water hybrid striper are very good with numerous limits near the boat docks and off the banks in shal low water near the hot water outlet on slab minnows crappie are excel lent on minnows in 12 feet of water catfish are fair on stink bait and shrimp FAYETTE Water clear 80 degrees 1 foot high black bass are good to 6 pounds on top waters early and Carolina Rigged worms in shallow to 18 feet of water during the day cat fish are fair to 15 pounds on water dogs and live perch GIBBONS CREEK Water off color 6 inches low black bass are good to 9 pounds on topwaters and Carolina rigged worms at the back of Gibbons Creek and over main lake humps crappie are fairly good to near limits at Sulphur Creek Point and near the intake on minnows cat fish are fairly good off the banks and on jug lines baited with shad INKS LAKE Water clear 63 degrees normal level white bass are fair on minnows and shad cat fish are good in the 23 pound range on rod and reels baited with chicken liver all other fishing has been slow due to the weather LIMESTONE Water off color 65 degrees normal level black bass are fairly good to 7 pounds on Bulldog spinners and Jawtec craw worms in the shallows near the struc ture white bass are fair crappie are slow catfish are fair to 24 pounds on trotlines baited with perch SOMERVILLE Water off color nor mal level black bass are fairly good near the boat ramps and rocky areas in shallow water early and late on topwaters spinners and treuse worms white bass are good in the schools but are running small hybrid stripers are very good near the dam on chrome RatLTraps crappie are good over brush piles in 1012 feet of water on live minnows catfish are excellent in shallow water on shad baited trotlines Babe Ruth teams open with wins From staff reports Both Mission Valley Mill and VFW teams opened with two wins versus Seguin Babe Ruth teams in the 1315 age group Mission Valley beat the Cubs 140 at Seguin on Wednesday and then walloped the Braves 250 at New Braunfels Friday night Stanley Killian provided strong pitching for Mission Valley in both games and the whole team hit well and played solid defense VFW beat the As 74 on Thursday at Seguin behind Chris Rivera who pitched three hitless innings and struck out seven Roman Villareal held the lead in his two innings on the mound Friday night Rivera allowed one unearned run in four innings as VFW jumped out to an 81 lead over the Yankees Jason Luna Colin Smith and James Hernandez drove
