Texas took home awards for ihelr tasty entries in beef chicken pork and side dish after competing in the Wurst CookOff Dance April 23 1094 at the Wurstfest grounds The Wurst CookOff and Dance was a success on all fronts great weath er wonderful food and lots of people to celebrate the Wurstfest Associa tions salute to good barbecue and said association President Joe Kuehler Sanctioned by the International Bar becue Cookers Association more than 30 teams competed for trophies and cash awards in the annual barbecue contest sponsored by the Wurstfest Association The dance featuring Austin band RoTel and the Hot Toma toes secured a record crowd in the Wursthalle in the evening Tha New Braunfols Clrcto DA Cokara won tha third placo prize for bMf Rabies clinic set for May 14 The annual city wide rabies clinic will be held on Saturday May 14 from to 4 at the Comal County Fairgrounds The cost will be for the vaccina tion and for the license All cats should be brought in a carrier and all dogs should be restrained on a leash The clinic is sponsored by the Comal County Veterinary Medical Associa tioa Rabies is a viral disease that can affect all mammals including humans It is often spread to domestic animals through the bite of wild animals such as skunks bats or raccoons The best pre vention for rabies is vaccination There fore Texas State Law requires vacci nation of all dogs and cats by the time the animal if four months old and year ly thereafter The vaccination must be administered by a licensed veterinari an The City of New Braunfels and Comal County require licensing of dogs and cats yearly for intact animals A lifetime license may be purchased for altered animals as long as the rabies vaccination is current Any animals without a current rabies vaccination and license are in violation of the City and County ordinance and State Law and are subject to fines The rabies clinic is offered by your local veterinarians to help insure that all dogs and cats are moving the countrys first athome interactive defensive driving course out of the garage and into the hands of local traffic violators Drivers taking the statecertified Interactive course bring home a small electronic terminal and a video cassette After logging on to the Interactive system students watch the by comedian Jeff Alt man and then answer questions on the terminal Taking a page from the fledgling interactive cable industry answers are transmitted to Inter active headquarters when the athome student plugs in the terminal to a tele phone line It is a patentpending development that promises to transform the drivers safety industry according to US Inter active cofounders Rick Johnson Mike Quran and Scott Owens Theres one crucial factor keeping the vast major ity of people ftom completing a defen sive driving says Johnson Only eight percent of all people tick eted for traffic violations in Texas take defensive driving classes a figure Johnson says can be greatly improved
