HAMMETT Staff Writer Two teams met at Unicorn Field Wednesday night One played for a trophy one played simply for pride In the end it was a good team that won and a good one that lost Uvalde upended host New Braunfels 42 in the district finale for both knocking the Unicorns out of the District 28 4A title spot New Braunfels finishes second at 113 behind Boeme who finished 122 The Unicorns will still move into the state playoffs next week against Austin Westlake New Braunfels lost their last two district games by identical 42 margins Uvalde which fin ished third lost twice to Boeme and once to New Braunfels ear lier in the year 43 Theyve got a good team We had two close games with said Unicom Coach Neal Miller Uvalde was picked to win the district at the beginning of the Miller said the Kerrville loss 109 in extra innings affected his squad What really hurt us was the Kerrville he said No matter how much we talk about it its still there on your Uvalde which lost a shot at the Braunfels school board trustees approved the hiring of Larry Schulte to coach the high school varsity girls basketball team for the 199495 school year Schulte replacesMarla Puste jovsky as head coach for the Unicorns who were 1117 this past season 410 in district Schulte 34 has been the head girls junior varsity basketball coach and an assistant volley ball coach since joining the New Braunfels high school staff in 1991 Schulte also teaches health and physical education classes at the high school and wilJ con tinue to do so he said He also believes he will continue his role as assistant volleyball coach Ill still be an assistant vol leyball he said That shouldnt change as far as I The contract is scheduled as are teacher contracts for one year subject to review each year Terms of the contract are still to be approved during the bud get sessions this summer Schulte said one of his main objectives is to increase partic ipation in girls basketball on all levels Im very excited about this said Schulte of his first head coaching position Right now from junior high on up I want to concentrate on encouraging participation at all An eightyear coaching vet eran Schulte coached at a Catholic school in Austin after graduating from the University of Texas at Austin He said he sees no major changes in the style of play for Unicom girls basketball this point I never like to say there
