Post Road targeted in budget earmarked in new budget for project By JENNIFER ROMPEL Staff Writer Garden Club Council to host dedication ceremonies By JENNIFER ROMPEL Staff Writer Several months of hard work by interested citizens will be recognized Friday when the New Braunfels Council of Garden dubs ded icates 78 trees to the citizens of New Braun fels The council will hold a dedication ceremo ny at 10 Friday at Prince Sdms Park The trees being dedicated have been plantedln the park along Liberty and San Antonio streets This is the largest tree planting in any of the parks in New Braunfels since the founding of Landa Park The council spent approximately in planting the trees and installing an automatic drip watering system according to Lila Schoenfeld chairman of the dedication com mittee We wanted to do something for the com munity Our philosophy is to be for the envi ronment and for beautification and conservl she said Schoeiffeld said the committee met with City Parks Director David Whatley and decid ed to plant trees at Prince Solms Park The council purchased the trees and the trees were planted by city staff Schoenfeld said the council planted the fol lowing trees 16 Chinese Pistache 12 Live Oak five Lacy Oak five Crepe Myrtle 16 Mountain Laurel and 20 Compac Ceniso Residents on Post Road may see some relief concerning the condition of their street after the 199495 budget is approved According to City Manager Mike Shands the city coun cil has budgeted approximately in next year3 budget for repairs on Post Road Shands said he has received several calls from residents who live on the road Also the city council was presented with a petition from area residents requesting the road be repaired According to Shands 20 percent of the citys entire street asphalting repair budget for 199495 has been dedi cated to the repair of the road He said plans call for repairs to be done to the area from the frontage road to Richter Lane The council discussed the expenditure during its last budget meeting Shands said officials are trying to respond to the problem I explained that by agreeing to do this they were going to be giving 20 percent of the street budget to one street There was a consensus that it a he said The 199495 budget goes into effect in July The coun cil is expected to be formally presented with the budget in an upcoming city council hosted by the Rotary Club at the Comal County Fair grounds Theswap meet begins Friday and continues through Sunday In only the second year the New Braunfels swap meet is already gaining recognition throughout the swap meet cir cles Barney Calvert of the Rotary Club said over 360 vendors have already registered for spaces nearly double last years total The swap meet features people travel many miles s0me times to trade buy and sell parts from classic autorno biles parts not easily found anywhere else RonBrooks a local dealer in classic autos said the show falls one week before one oYthe Staff Writer Two people were injured in an accident that occurred on Landa Park Drive Wednesday after noon Carolyn Burge Crim 47 of New Braunfels and Dora Villarreal Lagunas 45 of New Braunfels were both transported to McKenna Memorial Hospital on Wednesday Crim was reported to have noninca pacitating injuries and Lagunas was reported to have possible injuries Both were treated and released The accident occurred at in the 300 block of Unda Park Drive near Gazebo Drive Also involved in the accident was Thomas Matthew Steele 34 of New Braunfels Steele was not injured in the accident According to reports the accident occurred as fol lows Crim who was driving a 1987 maroon Oldsmo bile Cutlass Supreme was headed east bound on Landa Park Drive Steele who was driving a 1991 white Ford F150 Lariat was behind Crim Crim apparently lost control of her car and drove into the west bound lane of traffic and struck Lagu nas vehicle a 1988 maroon Chrysler New Yorker Steeles vehicle hit the rear of Crims vehicle New Braunfels Emergency Medical Services responded to the scene along with officers from the New Braunfels Police Department New Braunftlt Emergency Medical personnel work passengers
