Press Sports Writert IRVING Texas The feuding JJ boys meet facctofacc again today in their power struggle to determine the future of the Super Bowl champion Dallas Cowboys Jimmy Johnson and club owner Jerry Jones talked for 2 hours Monday and discussed the past But neither would say Johnson is still the coach of the Cowboys They were scheduled to talk again beginning at today in the Valley Ranch office of Jones Nothing has been Johnson said Well be back again tomorrow to discuss where we go from here We basically talked about the last five years and were candid about our Jimmy and I had an extensive Jones said It was a real opportunity to discuss the last 5 years He was very thorough but nothing was resolved at all We discussed the positive and the negatives of the past and how we had worked together Today we talked about the past we talk about the future and thats all Ive got to Jones was then asked the same question Johnson was asked earlier whether Johnson is still the coach He declined to answer It was their first facetoface meeting since their highprofile battle escalated early last week during an NFL meeting in Orlando Fla But those close to the men declined to pre dict Johnsons future with the Super Bowl champions Quarterback Troy Aikman met for an hour each with Jones and Johnson after a morning workout but said I have no sense of the way its going to Aikman said he was called into Jones office after he on his own initiative visited Johnson I told both of them what I felt and I left it at that I know nothing more than I ever Aikman said I dont think they know for sure yet whats going to take place These Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones met are two intelligent adults and they can solve with disgruntled coach Jimmy Johnson their own early this morning Regional Quarterfinal New Braunfels vs San Antonio MacArthur Herald Zeitung photo by JOHN HUSETH New Braunfels midfielder Ryder McDonald T and the Unicorns travel to San Antonio today to take on San Antonio MacArthur the same team New Braunfels beat In a Shootout In last years Regional Finals Todays quarterfinal playoff game begins at pjn Seems like old times New Braunfels plays familiar MacArthur By JODI MCDONALD Sports Editor Revenge will be a motivating factor for the Brahmas in this after noons New BraunfelsMacArthur Regional Quarterfinal match When the New Braunfels Uni corns defeated San Antonio MacArthur 31 in a Shootout in the 1993 Regional Finals the win earned the Unicorns a date at state The fans will always refer to last years matchup as one of the best games the Unicorns have ever by far the longest Almost three hours passed before the Unicorns came out ahead The two teams played to a scoreless tie in regulation play and neither could break through with a score in two 15rninute overtime periods either After Ryan Rogers made his thirteenth save of the day against MacArthur favorite Brad Massey Unicom Danny Rios stepped up for his chance to win the touinameni and Rios or Tatu as his friends called him nailed the shot and the Unicorns were glory bound Both the Unicorns and the Brah mas lost valuable players to last years graduation but both have added some skilled newcomers to their teams this season In the opening scrimmage of this years preseason MacArthur and the Unicorns faced off for the first time in 1994 The Brahmas left with a 10 win The first half of the preseason game saw both teams virtually match shots on goal but the Uni corns played with caution The Brahmas landed a shot with just over a minute left in the half In the second half New Braun fels took to the field with improved confidence but MacArthur domi nated ball possession and the game ended 10 As the season has progressed however both teams have seen tremendous improvement and todays winner is anybodys guess The Brahmas come into todays game with a 1731 record ranked at No 3 in the area coaches poll The Unicorns have recorded 15 34 season record and moved up two notches just under MacArthur at No 4 The Unicorns pome into todays match with a 24 win over Austin NB vs MacArthur WHAT New Braunfels Unicorns vs San Antonio MacArthur Brahmas WHEN Today WHERE teammates The Brahmas are without their starting sweeper who is playing in France with his Olympic Devel opment team but have adjusted to the change quite well The Unicorns have suffered injuries throughout the season but should start with a relatively healthy team Hopefully well be at said Unicorn coach Bob Rodriguez MacArthur is a very efficient team and has a deep Rodriguez says his lineup will remain the he is familiar with MacArthur coach Robert Criyellaris team The Unicorns held practice Monday morning but had what Rodriguez referred to as basical ly a light Rodriguez feels that he has done everything possible to prepare the team for the Regional match and held the practice tp keep the kids With the kids on spring break this week it makes things more scattered than usual I have to be careful to keep the kids The winner of the Mac Arthur New Braunfels game will take on the winner of Brownsville Rivera Christi King on Friday in the Regional Tournament Unicorns put lead online NB travels to Smithson Valley in district matchup By RICHARD TIJERINA Sports Editor New Braunfels hoping its pitching will continue while its batting catches up puts its perfect mark in District 284A on the line tonight when the Unicorns travel to Smithson Valley The Unicorns sit atop the standings in district play but they face a dangerous team in the Rangers 12 who have an outstanding pitcher and good overall team speed Tonights game which gets under way at Ranger Field at 7 may be a clinic in base stealing Senior Clinton Hajek has stolen 10 bases this year second in district only to Alamo Heights Dayne Masters 14 But the Unicorns are only two stolen bases behind the Mules for team stolen bases with 39 New Braunfels will start pitcher Joe Luna who threw a onehitter and faced only 24 batters in last Tuesdays win over Clemens Our guys are coming off a big win a 74 win over Canyon Friday night but its always tough to play after a tough New Braunfels coach Neal Miller said Thats all a part of growing up I expect our guys to play The Unicorns are batting just 252 as a team led by Jessie Delgados 400 average and Jesse Morales 375 But the strength of this years squad has been on the pitching mound Jeff Gonzales has emerged as New Braunfels top pitcher winning two district games over preseason favorites Boeme and Canyon with an earned run average of Luna pitched a shutout in his first appearance last week Two important statistics however tells the tale of how the Unicorns have gotten to their 30 mark With 39 stolen bases New Braunfels has had plenty of base runners And with runners in scoring posi tion the Unicorns are batting 380 Hopefully I think well start hit ting the ball more Miller said Our pitching has been real con sistent and weve been able to capi talize on other teams The Unicorns have had a relatively easy time of it in district so far having outscored their opponents by almost a 21 margin But they also know the district race is a long way from being decided Were very happy to be where we are but Clemens is winless in district and they had as good a chance to beat us as Miller said This race is going to be real com petitive and each district team has good players on it I really think it will be the last week of district play before the whole district is settled out I real ly do I just hope when the dust clears the Unicorns are near the In other district action Canyon will travel to Kerrville Tivy Sports Bulletins TENNIS T Bar M offering Ladies League The T Bar M Ladies Spring League will begin April 7 The league plays every Thursday at
