New Braunfels Herald-Zeitung (Newspaper) - March 13, 1994, New Braunfels, Texas fi Al Sunday March Continued from Page 5A Fifth Point if Watson and his bunch dont like the way 1 represent the public then they are welcome to work to prevent my reelection However this is a moot issue The powers that be have gerryman dered the election districts so that when my term is up I will be ineligible to seek Sixth Point If my objections to ongoing viola tions of the Texas Open Meetings Act arent enough then let it be know too that I object to the broad brush by which I am being painted by those who claim to have the best interests of the kids in mind It is this same dynasty that has put us into the mess were in right now We have trustees who have been on the board nearly nine years each and recently lost two trustees who served even longer Yet every effort is made to blame my 22 months on the board as the cause of 1 the lack of long range plan ning 2 the inefficient management and 3 the lack of facilities alterna tives do they expect the public to buy the notion that my occasional NO vote causes all the problems I vote NO I am constantly on the losing end of the ballot yet the wild bunch expects the public to believe that Im somehow responsible for what all of the other trustees con sistent decadelongfun of YES votes have caused say that its LaLaLand is an understatement Seventh Point Watson wants to indict my credibil ity by suggesting that my missing one nonaction discussion session with some TEA guru is a dereliction of my responsibility as a trustee match my record of visiting schools talking with teachers and lis tening to the kids against any trustee any time The Texas Association of School Boards recommends that trustees receive 32 hours of board training cred it during their three year term Present ly I have 31 hours of credit and I have 14 months left on my term the expectation is that the trustees receive 26 hours during his first two years By the standards set by the TASB Im well ahead of sched ule in my training Oh well Watson sees it differently Numbers may not be his long suit Eighth Point Watson seems to have a little trouble with other facts too He reports in his editorial that in December the board elected to not replace Tom Oh What ballot was that fact is Agenda Item X was designed to consider the method by which Tom Potters vacated seat would be filled I made a motion that the seat be filled by voters at the regular school board election in May That motion was killed in a tie vote To tieup the vote the board president suddenly agreed with me and with Tom Bruce despite a long standing record of pub lic statements on his part that there was an urgency to fill the seat by appointment So Watson sees the tie vote as the board elected to not replace Tom Pot Wrong A decision was not made Or was it The board president seems to think that he had the consensus of the board to bring Potter back But where was that vote taken It didnt take place that night at least not publicly then one trustee said some thing publicly that night about taking a straw vote Did that happen Wouldnt that be prohibited under the Texas Open Meetings Act Bingo Ninth Point Tom Potter said to a radio audience of KGNB that he was told by the board president there was a consensus of the board for him to return to the board Oh wow I didnt vote for that When did they vote for that I realize a 42 ballot would have easily created a legal consensus for that to happen no such vote is in the public record So how did it happen The remaining portion Douglas Kirks column will be printed in the Wednesday issue of the Herald INTERNAL MPJCJNL New Patients Welcome Medicare Assignment Accepted No Referral Necessary 264 West Mill Street New
