tournament I never knew how much I wanted it until I lost Morales said Now that IVe got it back Tm going to try to make the best of New Braunfels can live with that Morales will give the Unicorns valuable depth at the guard position and his return marks a time where the boys team is at a crossroads at 7 5 the Unicorns have the talent to be a major player in the District 284A race but have lacked the consistency That figures to change in the near future as New Braunfels coach Cliff Wilkins continues to bring his team along Through it all though Morales has been there in spirit if not necessarily in body And that perhaps has been the hardest part of all Now I know how it feels to be left out to got to games and said Morales who made the jersey number change from 12 to 23 this year in honor of his father Alfredo Morales who played for New Braunfels in the early 1970s It hurts to see them lose close games or struggle when theyre not playing well It hurts the most when they lose and come up to me and say We couldVe used you out there I couldnt do any thing about But Morales did do something about it working hard in the classroom to regain his eligibility In one sixweeks period Morales raised his Algebra average from a 65 to 81 YouVe got to focus on your schoolwork said Morales textbook in hand as he prepared for his final day of final exams The reason why I failed is because I was looking more toward the season rather than school It was a hard lesson to Morales said teammates went through a brief period of denial when they first found out in November But now that hes back Wilkins said they have received Morales with open arms That was evident Thursday as Morales was joking with teammates while working out Basketball trials lie in his future this sea son but Morales already has passed the biggest test of all All State from Player of the Year the AustinAmer ican Statesmans CenTex Player of the Year and a unanimous selection to the San Antonio ExpressNews Sometimes it still surprises me just to think about Mitchell said about his senior season in which he led Class 4A in rushing with yards and scored 29 touchdowns Ifs something you dream about Mitchell credited both Schuetz and Zaeske as major reasons for both his and Canyons success this season Zaeske was the leader of a Cougar defense which always seemed to make the right play He came up with a game saving interception against Clemens on a fourth down play deep in Bulletins Continued from 6A game with a 4016 victory over Temple last week and Aldine MacArthur advanced by bearing Vic toria 207
