attended the Interntlonal Lions convention In Minneapolis Minnesota recently which attracted members from around the globe Pictured are Bob Tays Charlie Cook Clinton Ludwlg Gene Burr Ray Staats Milton Kaderll Joe Worl BUI Kolodlze Dick Arnwlne and Dick Warren Divers to probe the Comal for garbage in Trashfest On Saturday Oct 2 the Texas Gulf Coast Council of Div ing Clubs will donduct its 18th Annual Trashfest an ecol ogy dive to clean up the Comal River1 and its banks in New Braunfels Last year over pounds of garbage including bottles and cans more than poptops and lids 450 shoes and 40 pairs of sunglasses were taken from the Comal said Jim Scheele director of the Con vention and Visitors Bureau of the Grater New Braunfels Chamber of Commerce TGCC is a nonprofit organization made up of sports scuba diving clubs in the Houston area Over 600 participants are expected to converge on the Carnal River for Trashfest and all the volunteer sports divers come from Texas and the surrounding Trashfest is a team competition and awards are present ed to the winning teams in five categories most bottles cans and cups most aggregate weight most poptops bottle caps and lids most shoes and sunglasses and most unusu al items found by an individual The Greater New Braunfels Chamber of Commerce has given financial support for TGCCs efforts similar to what we did with the recent highly successful Guadalupe Trash Scheele said In past years volunteer scuba divers have rid the Comal River of tons of trash inthese categories Following the clean up an awards dinner will be held for the participants who also have an opportunity to win thousands of dollars in door prizes Without Trashfest the cost to have a river cleanup of this magnitude would be tremendous I know the citizens of New Braunfels cerainly appreciate it and we will continue to support Scheele said Local organizations which support Trashfest in various ways include Sea Sports Scuba of Houston City of New Braunfels Parks and Recreation Department Greater New Braunfels Chamber of Commerce Wurstfest Association Miller Wholesale Beers and Pleasure Divers Anyone interested in helping the 1993 Trashfest true Hes got a couple of sisters Im not crazy about but I dont hate them I guess Im upset because he didnt consult me before agreeing to have the party at our place Am I wrong Abby And what should I do MARRIED TO A MOMMAS BOY DEAR MARRIED He should have consulted you before mak ing the commitment but dont make a federal case out of it The fat is in the fire Make a list of things to do before the medical student who was studying to become a doctor It reminded me of a riddle that I heard recently A teenage boy had been in a serious car accident The hospital called his father so he could sign a consent form to authorize surgery if it was needed His father went to the hospital and signed the form After the boy was wheeled into the operating room the doctor looked at the boy and exclaimed I
