increase By JENNIFER ROMPEL StaH Writer Single family building permits in Comal County are once again showing a strong increase in July with a jump of percent from July 1992 to July 1993 In the city of New Braunfels the number of building permits remained stable at 12 in July 1992 and July 1993 Yeartodate both New Braunfels and Comal County are showing strong increases From January to July the city has had a increase in single family building permits compared to 1992 The county showed an increase of percent for the same period Greater New Braunfels Chamber of Comal County figures indicate increase of 18 Commerce Vice President Michael Meek said the citys numbers in July show that the city is basically staying even and has nothing to worry about We still have a good start on the year since we are 20 permits he said There are so few builders in town that it will take a couple of more months before they will take out more he said We will see more in County permits are up five from July 1992 to July 1993 However the county also has hada strong increase in past months It is not as big an increase as last said Meek We are still on the upward Meek also said most of the homes being built are already sold and more permits will be expected in the county this fall In the city of New Braunfels com mercial permits jumped from zero in July 1992 to five in July 1993 Year to date the city is ahead from seven in 1992 to 10 in 1993 Meek said the value of these per mits is only He said more permits with higher dollar amounts are expected in upcoming months The following numbers Publisher A 12hour event set for Saturday Sept 18 will give New Braunfels area youth a unique perspective on being homeless Organized cooperatively by the youth directors of a number of Comal County churches the Peace On The Plaza event will begin at 7 Sept 18 and conclude at Sunday Sept The event which is billed as the ultimate street party and which will feature a perfor mance by a Christian band will be in the New Braunfels Utilities parking lot on the downtown plaza The cost of participation according to Martha Bartlett the youth director at First United Methodist Church in New Braunfels is a dona tion of wearable clothes and a love Participants must sign up to be a part of the event not later than Sept 13 organizers said To sign up interested persons or groups should contact Kory Wallace youth minister at Bracken United Methodist Church by calling 0105 Wallace is the overall coordinator of the event The event is intended according to Kristin Swenson youth minister for St Paul Lutheran Church in New Braunfels to show the kids what its like to be Swenson said din ner will be distributed in plastic bags and will con sist of such things as beanie Some of the bags she added may contain only broken utensils Drinks will be provided from a garden hose Organizers are hesitant to release many of the details of the event saying that to do so would lessen their impact
