The young couple have made their home in this city, where the groom is an efficient assistant to his father, Mr. C.J. Ludwig in his furniture store. The Herald extends congratulations! 50 years ago (1943): Betty Pfeuffer Triesch A bill providing for payment of taxes on the Comal steam plant located here owned by San Antonio and leased to the Guadalupe-Bianco River Authority which was introduced in the House of Representatives by Rep. Frank B. Voigt of New Braunfels has passed both the House and Sen ate and is awaiting the signature of Governor Stevenson .... The bill provides that all river authorities pay taxes on their properties in the political subdivision they are located in and further provides that cities owning property outside their city limits must make payment equal to the valorem taxes. Also included in the bill is the power to tax federal properties as allowed by RFC. A Victory Corps or course in trained military drill is being established in New Braunfels high school according to announcements this week by EA Sahm, superintendent of schools and Capt. E.A. Schumann of the Texas Defense Guard. Ollie Edward Maynard, 12, drowned in the Guadalupe river approximately 150 yards west of the old bridge last Friday afternoon at 5:30. The body was not located until approximately 24 hours later hooked to a trout line. He was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Herman Maynard of 278 Faust Street. Gene Schmuck, son of Ed Schmuck, formerly of New Braunfels, recently graduated with a average of 99 in his final examination at Corpus Chirsti Naval Base. He is now Aviation Radio Technician Second Class and has been appointed as an instructor at Ward Island.
