New Braunfels Herald Zeitung (Newspaper) - April 29, 1993, New Braunfels, Texas THURSDAY, APRIL 29, 1993 HERALD ZEITUNG 5 Stammtisch Project Volleyball New Braunfels High School students will take on their teachers in a volleyball game at 6:30 p.m. Thursday in the high school gym. Admission is $1. Proceeds from the event go to support Project Graduation. Perfect Boss The New Braunfels Jaycees would like to honor the perfect boss with a Bosses Night Out on May 12. Nominations will be accepted until April 30, when the applications will be reviewed and a winner chose. Applications may be sent to PO Box 310432, New Braunfels, 78130. Friends For Rivers Friends For Rivers will hold their second annual Water Quality Forum beginning at 7 p.m. Thursday, April 29 at Victoria Bank and Trust, 1000 N. Walnut Ave. Speakers representing Guadalupe-Bianco River Authority, Larry Anderson’s CHS chemistry classes and Annette Hanley’s SVHS Ecology club will detail their involvement in Texas Watch. Sponsored by the Texas Water Commission statewide, and Friends For Rivers locally, Texas Watch is a volunteer net work that assists the state in monitoring water quality in area waterways. Jaycees The New Braunfels Jaycees are sponsoring their annual Casino Night from 5 p.m. to midnight, Thursday, April 29 at Saenger-halle. The event will feature casino style games with play money and will benefit the New Braunfels Community Service Center. David Wolfe may be contacted for more information at 620-1202. Exercise Class The New Braunfels Independent School District is offering a step-exercise class at the Academy Street Gym 5:30-6:45 p.m. Monday through Thursday. Miracle Network The Wal-Mart Distribution Center willhol a garage sale from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, May I in front of the Wal-Mart store in New Braunfels. All proceeds will go to the Children’s Miracle Network. # Arts and Crafts Fair An Arts and Crafts Fair will be held from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, May I at the Canyon Lake Forest Civic Club in Startsville. Food and drink will also be available. Bowling summer The Freiheit Bowling Club summer series will begin on Monday, May 3. Teams will be picked on Thursday, April 29. Those wishing to sign up may call J.C. Stolte at 625-8101. Canyon Lake Arts The Canyon Lake Arts Guild will hold an Arts and Crafts Fair from IO a.m. to 5 p.m. May I at the Hancock Center on Highway 306. Framed and unframed works will be available, as well as wood works, watercolors and oils. Perennial seminar Scott Ogden will present a pro gram on perennials at IO a.m., May I at .Schulz Nursery in Marion. Admission is free. Bike protection Bicycles may be marked for identification from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, May I at the New Braunfels Municiple Building parking lot. There is no charge for the service. Reunion 1968 Invitiation have been mailed for the 25th reunion of the Canyon High School Class of 1968. Class members who have not received their invitiations should contact Charlene Tim-mermann-Nolte at 629-1000. Those who have received invitations are asked to pass the word to other classmates to avoid overlooking anyone. The reunion will be held at 4 p.m. June 26 at Schwamkrug’s. Benefit buffet Mr. Gatti’s Restaurant will be donating $1 of every adult buffet purchased 5-9 p.m. May 3 and 4 to Project Graduation. May 3 proceeds will go to New Braunfels High School, and May 4 proceeds will go to Canyon High School. Car Wash A benefit car wash for the Women’s Runners softball team will be held at 9 a.m. Saturday, May I at Barry’s Underpass Saloon on Seguin Street. Donations will be accepted. Spring Fete The annual Carl Schurz Spring Fete and Carnival will be held from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Friday, April 30. A spaghetti supper will also be prepared by the Evening Rotary Club. Admission is $3.50 for adults, and $2.50 for children. Defensive Driving Comal ISD will hold Defensive Driving classes, taught by Charlie Rose, 6 IO p.m. May 4 and 6 in Room 5 at Canyon High School. More information is available at 625-8576 or 625-8081. VFW7110 Post, 7110 Veterans of Foreign Wars will conduct a flag-raising ceremony at 8 a.m. Saturday, May I in observance of Loyalty Day. All members are invited to attend. College Fair La Mujer Tejana will host a College Fair to promote higher education 1-4 p.m. Saturday, May I at the Holy Family Church Hall, 245 S. Hidalgo St. in New Braunfels. Colleges being represented include Baylor university, Rice University, Seguin Beauty School, Southwest Texas State University, Texas Lutheran College, University of Texas at Austin and Victoria College School of Nursing. Spiritual seminar St John’s Episcopal Church will host a seminar titled “Discovering Your Spiritual Gifts,” 7-9:30 p.m. Friday, April 30, continuing from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, May I. The Rev. Kevin E. Martin, director of the Center for Leadership Training and Clergy Renewal of Episcopal renewal Ministries, will lead the seminar. Those wishing to attend may contact the church office to register. FFA Dance The Comal County FFA will hold a dance from 9 p.m. to I a m. Saturday, May I at the Comal County Fairgrounds in the Corral. The county Line Band will provide music, and admission is $5 in advance and $6 at the door. Bake sale The George A Garcia Veterans of Foreign Wars Memorial Post 11050 will hold a bake and rum*' mage sale from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. May I at the H.E.B. parking lot annex. Barbecue dinner Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church will hold a benefit barbecue chicken dinner from ll a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, May I. Tickets may be bought in advance from parishoners or at the Parish Office.
