Casten 625-5522 Hardly a day goes by when the evening news does not report a crime that has occurred on our streets, in our neighborhoods, and in our world. With the large number of crimes being committed, law enforcement agencies must rely on programs such as CRIME STOPPERS. New Braunfels Police Department initiated the local Crime Stoppers program in 1986. Todate, calls made to the Crime Stoppers program help clear approximately 29 felony cases and approximately 46 suspects have been arrested. Narcotics in an amount of $4,000 have been recovered as well over $39,000 in stolen property. The Crime Stoppers program, to date, has paid $3,225 in rewards to the callers. Crime Stoppers is a community program, lead by a civilian board of directors who work with the local law enforcement agencies and the Media to help fight crime. Libby Rinehart, the coordinator for the program, answers the tips line at the Police Department, relays the information to the Investigators and coordinates rewards through the Board of Directors. Crime Stoppers can continue to be a crime fighting tool for the New Braunfels Community but needs your help. As a citizen of this community, you may ask simply "What do I do if I witness a crime or have information about a crime?" The answer is "Call Crime Stoppers" and this is how it works. You have information about a crime and call the Crime Stoppers Tips Line at 620-TIPS. Your call comes in on a nonrecorded line and is strickly confidential. You are asked to call periodically to track the progress of your information. The information is passed on to the investigators who begin their investigation. lf your information leads to the arrest and grand jury indictment of the person responsible for a felony crime, you are entitled to a reward of UP TO $1,000. Rewards are based on a points system and approved by the Board of Directors. Libby Rinehart, Program Coordinator of New Braunfels/Comal County Crime Stoppers recently announced a new program called "Quick $50.00" in the New Braunfels and Comal County area. The goal of the "Quick $50" program, Ubby said, is to target citizens with information relating to ALL criminal activity, including gang and drug related activity, in hopes that more information wilt Assist in stopping and solving more crimes. Under the program, Crime Stoppers will pay $50 within seven days to citizen whose information leads to an arrest of anyone charged with a Class B misdemeanor or greater. Such offenses include theft, vandalism, information on wanted persons, and the recover of stolen property, as well as the display and possession of narcotics and weapons, lf the information leads to a felony arrest, Crime Stoppers will pay callers up to $1,000 in addition to the Quick $50.
