tournaments for New with each provide inside scoring to complement the perimeter play of Mike Brett Riedel and And John as managed to get more than his share of the tough Katie Canyon The Cougarette post exploded for two doublefigure outings this lighting it up for 15 points of the 35 scored by the entire Cougarette team against NixonSmiley and coming back for 13 in Canyons 4741 win against Riedels production was immensely helpful to the taking pressure of leadingscorer Misty Brever and Riedels coinside Glenda The Canyon senior scored six of the first eight points against getting an assist on the other early After getting in foul trouble early and staying in she managed to remain in the game down the stretch and contributed some important baskets near the end of the game when the outcome was still in The Cole game was a breakthrough of sorts for as three players reached doubledigit scoring and shooting guard Catherine Wiesner combined for 40 of the Cougarettes 47 Wiesner had an exceptional first half against the hitting five outside shots before Brever picked up the slack in the third quarter to momentarily hold off which got back into the game in the fourth before Canyon rallied to win the first comeback victory of the year for the Brian Canyon Caddell didnt do anything different in the Canyon Classic than hes done all year in he may have been a little off from the outside compared to previous But in lowscoring he still averaged almost 20 points and more than 10 rebounds per contest to maintain his countybest scoring Although hes had substantial help from his Caddell has been a marvel all year as the Cougars go to the break with an impressive 88 Before this weeks he had hit a phenomenal 50 percent of his 78 threepoint attempts on the and was hitting 60 percent of his Along with Michael Caddell has also been the leader in Canyons rebounding With an ability to play inside or penetrate or dish or take it to the rebound and Caddell is one of the most versatile players the county has seen in some Hes no one of the The Cougar has played consistently as a unit as well as any boys team in the Although the Cougars can run and often do behind star guard Anthony Buenos significant defensive Canyon has done a terrific job of working for the good shot and adapting on defense to suit the Much of die credit from that should go to new coach Kenny who was informally dubbed Comal County coach of the year by no less of an authority than New Braunfels Coach Cliff Wilkins whos always a contender for that honor Jason Smithson Valley Getting away from the Canyon Smithson Valley guard Jason Long had his best week of the season despite what was in part a difficult week for his Long scored 17 points twice during die which is a seasonhigh for the talented
