The leading fund- Overman, raiser, Beene, won dinner for two at Wolfgang s 5-7. Music will be provided by the San Antonio Symphony, and the featured dancers are members of Ballet West. Les Thorn, left, president of the Comal County Senior Citizens Foundation, and Gladys Banting, right, director of the Senior Citizens Center, accept a donation from Toya Ohlrich Lindsey, owner of Jack Ohlrich Better Homes Proceeds from Better Homes annual yard sale made the donation possible. Volunteer callers reported a record total of finanical pledges to help fight cardiovascular diseases and stroke at the annual Heart Teleparty held recently at Citizens Bank. The Comal Division of the American Heart Association accepted pledges totaling $3,380, an increase of about $ 1,200 over last year’s effort, according to Laurie Espil-Goode, who chaired the event. During the evening, volunteers snacked on chips, dips and sodas donated by Kroger Foods and other beverages donated by Joe and Jcannie Miller. Southwestern Bell Telephone Company donated the use of a cellular phone and picked up the tab for out-of-city calls. Cardiovascular discase is the number one killer in the nation, claiming more than 187 Comal County residents in 1989. Last year, the American Heart Association funded $5.8 million in research awards in Texas and reach over a million adults and young people with educational programs. During February Heart Month, volunteers will concentrate on reaching the public with educational programs and with the fourth annual Big Band Heart Dance scheduled for Feb. 21 al the Civic Center. Jack Melick and his orchestra will play nostalgic tunes from the 1940s. The Comal Division meets for lunch the fourth Tuesday every other month September through May.
