New Braunfels Herald Zeitung (Newspaper) - November 3, 1991, New Braunfels, Texas f Forum ■ Herald Zeltung, New Braunfels, 1) xas Sunday, November 3, 1991 Page 7 A Continued from Pogo 6A I never thought I’d see the day parents had no say in their children’s education that our tax dollars pay for. When a child goes from honors classes to failing and wants to quit school, someone had better come up with a ;• good explanation. What would you •I do? Please address comments to HCR I; 3 Box 19T. J*    Joyce Ines New Braunfels *0 >: - Listen to the constituents \ Editor: !j' I am personally delighted that the J* number of people present at the Tucs-l* day night City Council meeting filled •t the chamber. I was equally delighted #• that there was as open a forum that *• allowed public opinion to begin to be .shown on matters of public concern. •\ ‘ The main concern that I have at the X present is that among some holdovers J* there is still the notion that as they arc council members they are above lis- » tening to their constituents and will do just as they please. It is obvious that the logjam is going to continue. It is my conviction that it is time for the voters in the city to call their council representative and indicate their preference for the mayoral representative to that council person for one of the three nominees. There isn’t any assurance that the old school members will operate any differently but it will further the participation of the voters in governmental activities and perhaps influence all of the council to listen to the “voice of the people” between now and the next council meeting. We have the right to expect our council members to follow the direction that we, as voters, define to them. It is our responsibility to tell them who we want and shame on them if they don’t listen. Hint: There are two council seats coming up for election in May.    J.W.Mcllvaine New Braunfels I I f‘. \ I I I I I Card of Thanks To my many, many white friends who contributed so graciously and generously to our 91st Church Anniversary, Sunday, October 27th. Our program has been very successful and we have been able to provide a book for each baby bom at McKenna Memorial Hospital this past year. However, there are several organizations and establishments that we need to thank publicly because they have contributed to the success of our program. We would like to thank the Paper Factory, Comal Elementary PTO, Bulverde PTA, Canyon High School Student Council, Canyon High School TAFE, New Braunfels High School TAFE, New Braunfels High School HERO, Long Star PTA, and Scele PTA for helping us to promote literacy.
