The Dow Jones average of 30 industrial stocks was up 1.34 to 3,002.68 as of IO a.m. on Wall Street. Gainers outnumbered losers in nationwide trading of New York Stock Exchange-listed issues, with 555 up, 411 down and 575 unchanged. Volume on the Big Board came to 26.83 million shares after the first half-hour of trading. The Commerce Department reported this morning that retail sales rose 0.5 percent in July, more than many economists had predicted.
