New Braunfels Herald Zeitung (Newspaper) - July 21, 1991, New Braunfels, Texas Area briefsMan found In cabin FREDERICKSBURG — A man missing for five days after he became disoriented in the Enchanted Rock State Natural Arca has been found safely. Robert “Bob” Means, 32, of Austin was found in a hunting cabin on the Buttery Ranch. The search began when his car was found abandoned, with his dog still inside, three days after his arrival at the park. His driver’s license and keys were found on top of Enchanted Rock. Searchers were joined by Means’ father, who flew in from West Virginia to help find his son. The man was dehydrated and malnourished but otherwise unharmed, emergency medical technicians said.Youth wins title LAMPASAS — With a cry of “Don’t Mess With Texas,” John Sanut Girl Scouts set fashion project New Braunfels Girl Scouts are teaming up with a number of New Braunfels businesses to offer a special presentation for girls ages 12 to 16. Girls need not be a member of Girl Scouts in order to take part in this four-part seminar featuring local specialists in fashion, jewelry, hair styles, cosmetics and fitness. There is no registration fee. The presentation will begin with registration and a general assembly Monday. July 22 at 6:30 p.m. at the New Braunfels Girl Scout House. 345 Howard St. at Fredericksburg. Session I! will be at 9 a m. Tuesday, July 23 and will cover hair styles and The remaining two sessions will he on consecutive Wednesdays. July 31 and Aug 8 al the Girl Scout House and will feature fashion jewelry the girls can make themselves, planning outfits from baste wardrobes and the use of accessories and how health, diet and exercise afreet each girl’s personal fashion expression. There is a small supply fee for the session on jewelry making. Also, for the hair style and cosmetics session. girls will need to supply their own cosmetics. For more information call Steve Oppcrman. project director, at 629-1951, claimed two gold medals in recent National Junior Olympics taekwondo competition in Cincinnati. The 7-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. Lupe Sanut represented his hometown and home state in the lith annual event. He competed against athletes 6 to 9 years age and won in the form and fighting categories. The second grader now is ranked No. I in the world for his age group. He plans to compete in the event again in 1992, this time in Orlando, Fla.Eagles leader honored BLANCO — Helen Waxier, Auxiliary President of the Fraternal Order of Eagles for the State of Texas, was honored recently with a barbecue at Eagles’ Hall in Blanco. The Blanco-Spring Branch Aerie and Auxiliary #3932 hosted the reception and event. Local auxiliary presi dent is Margaret White and Joe Dier-ingcr is aerie president. Mrs. Waxier was installed in a ceremony in Odessa on June 22. Newly installed Worthy State President Al Bosley and his wife, Patsy, of Wichita Falls were present for the event.Raises again denied BOERNJi — A new attempt to grant Boerne Independent School District administrative personnel a 5.7 percent pay increase fell by the wayside at the July trustee meeting. After meeting in executive session, the board for the second time turned down a motion by Trustee Pam Plunkett to grant the raise. Plunkett’s motion never received a second. Mehcvec said he has met with residents of precincts I and 4 to discuss the possibility of going to district court to seek a declatory judgment that would order the commissioners court to transfer the $435,000 in question back into the road and bridge fund. They have begun pressuring the owner to comply with federal standards of disabled access. Members of Students Helping Students at Southwest Texas State Uni versity and representatives of American Disabled for Attendant Programs Today (ADAPT) presented flyers and fact sheets about disabled access to the owner during a recent protest.
