New Braunfels Herald Zeitung (Newspaper) - May 10, 1991, New Braunfels, Texas Religious Focus Page 16 Herald-Zeitung, New Braunfels, Texas Friday, May 10, 1991 A mother’s hands ;gg°ninbtei Chance Meetings By the Rev. Kenny Wood be on television. She’s in her 80s and her hands look it. They have scrubbed floors, washed dishes, hung out clothes, cooked a million meals, and bandaged wounds. Hers are a mother’s hands. I’ve held her hands in mine dozens of times. They are beautiful. They have been places. Take time this weekend to hold your mother’s hands; or at least to hold them in your heart. God only knows what they’ve been through for you. The Rev. Kenny Wood it pastor of Given ant Baptist Church, which meets in the Duck Blind Lounge at Forest Waters Country Club. Religion takes high-tech video twist By STEVE BRUNSMAN Th* Houston Post HOUSTON — Moses now stands with Nintendo’s Mario and Luigi as a video game hero. Wisdom Tree Inc., a California-based software company, reports strong demand for its first Biblc-based video game, Bible Adventures, which is compatible with Nintendo systems. The game has been marketed as a Christian alternative to the violence, demons and sorcerers found in other video games. “A lot of kids arc at a dead end with what they get from Nintendo and from television. They are bombarded with negative images,” said Wisdom Tree's Darrvl Beamon. In Houston, religious store clerks said Bible Adventures has sold well since its release four months ago. About 50,000 games have been sold nationwide, said Beamon, and monthly sales of 30,000 arc predicted. “It sells fast. We’re out and waiting for a new shipment,” said John Foust of Theophilus Bible Store Bible Adventures is a Super Mario Bros.-style game with three scenarios — Noah’s Ark, David Meets Goliath and Save Baby Moses. The game’s age range is 6 to adults. Bible Bowl Bible Bowl contestants from the New Braunfels Church of Christ placed high in recent competition at Harding University in Searcy, Ark. The high school team placed first in the experienced division. Members are Dean Smith, Jeff Hammond, Rishanne Weidner and David Compton. Each placed in the top 20 individually. The junior high team placed second in the experienced category. Members are Lisha Weidner, Jennifer McCarty, Christina McCarty and Brooke Smith. Matthew Rector and Maria Gayton, also of New Braunfels, were on a junior high team that placed fifth. Faith Freiling of New Braunfels was on a team made up of of contestants from other congregations that placed tenth. Coaches of the local team and Barbara Rector and Susan Smith. A close friend and I ate lunch together today and somehow got off on Janis Ian’s melancholy hit, At Seventeen Do you remember how it begins? “I learned the truth at seventeen, that love was meant for beauty queens...” You either loved the song or hated it.
