That’s when the Circle Arts Theatre, under the auspices of the New Braunfels Parks and Recreation Department, will present one of Shakespeare’s more mischievous comedies, “A Midsummer Night’s Dream.” The performance, which will last less than an hour, will take place at 3 p.m. in the band shell. All are invited and admission is free. “We are so pleased that Circle Arts wanted to do this, and excited about being able to sponsor this project,” said Parks Director David Whatley. “Both the parks department and the theater are eager to bring back the fun of live theater in a live setting.” The well-known comedy performed by the theater’s touring youth company, the Inner Circle, has been condensed and clarified so that the idioms of Shakespeare’s day won’t get in the way of understanding the plot. Most of the story takes place in the woods, peopled with languishing lovers, confused couples, mischievous forest sprites and a company of country bumpkins who perform a play within a play. Playing the lovers will be Lesia McIntyre, Shawn Hardee, Lucy Wylie and Jason Chew. In the role of playful Puck will be Kent Davidson, chasing Amy Smith as Cobweb, while Carissa Miller and Michael Whitener portray Queen Titania and King Oberon of the fairy world. Cast as the company of actors are Mark Payne as Bottom Jason Zech as Snug, Charles Locsch as Flute, Claire Folbre as Madam Quince and Jo Marie Seibert as Robin. “We plan to make ‘ Shakespeare in the Park’ an annual event,” said Elizabeth Elliott, the theater’s executive director, “and we hope it will grow, perhaps with strolling minstrels and Renaissance dancers.” Calculating change Brian Larson, left, landscaping specialist with Larson Design Group and Danelle Baldwin, marketing specialist with Melvin Simon and Associates, discuss some possible changes in downtown New Braunfels during a walk around the area sponsored by the Texas Main Street Project and the city’s Downtown Project. A Main Street resource team is in town through today. (Photo by Erik Karlsson) Voters of District 4! RE-ELECT EDDIE TEMPLE CITY COUNCIL — DISTRICT 4 Paid Pol. Adv. - Joe Rogers, Treas. We need you.
