New Braunfels Herald Zeitung (Newspaper) - April 2, 1991, New Braunfels, Texas Page 8    HerakJ    Za/funy,    New    Braunfels,    Texas Unicorns- Tuesday, April 2, 1991 Continued from Page 7 coms after tripling over center fielder Joie Salas' head. But Salas made a diving catch of a shallow hit by Joe Faulkner to end the inning. Randy Zamora's double to right-center scored Salas in the top of the second to give the Cowboys a 2-0 lead, but an error and two base hits gave New Braunfels its first run in the bottom of the frame. After Hodges led off by reaching on an infield error, courtesy runner Jacob Leos moved to second when Romero fisted an inside pitch to right field. Herman’s single down the third-base line drove in the run, but the inning ended when third baseman Robledo robbed Daniel Cantu of an extra-base hit with a diving catch, then tagged Romero before he could get back to the bag. Cantu scored the tying run in the fourth, hitting a one-out single before moving to second on an error. He moved to third on a fielder’s choice Box score MCCOLLUM NEWBRAUGH! •b r h bl ab r h bl Woodrdlf 3 21 1 Schrwr rf 4 1 2 2 Cor tx ss 3 1 0 0 Martnzss 4 01 1 Canodh 4 OO 0 Ovrturlc 3 02 1 Farias c 4 01 1 Garza cr 0 10 0 Rbldo3b 4 01 1 Flknr 1b 4 1 1 0 Hmdz rf 3 1 0 0 Hodgesp 4 01 2 Rbllso 1b 4 1 0 0 Leos cr 0 20 0 Salas cl 2 1 2 0 Rmero2b 4 1 2 0 Zamoa 3 01 1 Bustos cf 2 21 1 Totals 30 6 6 4 Hermn lf 4 1 3 1 Cantu dh 3 1 1 0 Yillrrlph 1 OO 0 Totals 33 1014 7 McCollum 110 013 I 3 _ 6 New Braunfels 010 171 : I to E—McCollum: Cortez 3, Farias, Zamoa; New Braunfels: Martinez 2, Lyssy 2, Faulkner, Romero, Herman. Hodges improved his season record to 6-1 while surrendering six hits and two earned runs. He finished the game with seven strikeouts, including three in the fourth inning, despite not pitching one of his stronger games of the year. “Early in the game his timing was off. He was rushing his motion and he wasn’t consistent,” Garza said. “He didn’t seem to have them fooled as much as he has other teams.” While the team defense may have suffered a lapse, Garza said he was pleased to see the offense finally come back to life. “Our defense didn’t win the game this time. We finally backed our pitcher up with our sticks,” he said. “I hope they can stay with it and not fall back and be satisfied."
