The infant was found by Mr. and Mrs. Steve Calderon shortly after S a.m. when they were awakened by their family dog. “She couldn’t have been there that long because it was cool that night and there was no real damage done to her,” Janie Calderon said. “An infant like that could have < ily been frostbitten because she only wrapped in a sweatshirt with a diaper on,” she said. Calderon then contacted the police who took the infant to Guadalupe Valley Hospital, where she was treated for dehydration. Although Calderon has offered to adopt the infant, she didn't think it would be possible. “Chances of keeping her are nil because people are already approved (by human services) and wailing for a newborn child," she said. Calderon believes that someone who knew her wanted her to have the baby, but did not want to come forward with their identity. “I don't Richardson Chiropractic Clinic see how anybody could do this when all they could have done was call me and say ’I’d like you to have it,' ” she said. The anonymous mother should have arranged private adoption if she wanted to avoid agency and governmental red tape, Calderon said. But Calderon said she feels for the' mother who had to give up her child. “My heart goes out to her because it tore me apart when I had to give her up," she said. Sladegh said the child will be placed in legal risk adoption to prevent long-term foster care, lf she stays in a foster home for a long period of time, she could get attached to the family, making it hard to leave. Legal risk adoption allows parents to adopt children with the understanding that there are temporary legal ventures, said Sladegh. “We can't place the children (permanently) until there is a termination with the natural 'she said.
