New Braunfels Herald Zeitung (Newspaper) - August 14, 1987, New Braunfels, Texas Religious Focus Herald-Zeitung. New Braunfels. Texas Friday August 14 198/Ministerial Alliance Love beautifies many blemishes By AL HOUK, Minister New Braunfels Christian Church I conducted a little experiment the other day. I took a blank sheet of typing paper and with a pen placed a dot on the paper. Then I showed the paper to my astute children and asked them what they saw. Knowing their father’s sense of humor, they expected some kind of trick answer. Assured there wasn’t, they said. “We see a mark on a piece of paper ’’ Well, what did I prove by my little experiment? For one thing. I saw how one very little blemish, the dot. became the center of focus It occupied only a small portion of the paper, but it became the object of at tention and turned the paper into trash. I continued the experiment I took the paper, this time carefully concealing the dot among the letters L-O-V-E. Again. I asked my anxious children what they now saw They responded. “We see Love.’’ Love had covered the blemish and had given the paper a desirable quality People are like that sheet of paper in at least this way — one small incident. one occasion when we should have kept our mouths shut and didn’t, one act of indiscretion, one flaw in our character, like the dot on an otherwise perfect sheet of paper, becomes the center of attention and on some occastion becomes the issue that trashes relationships People are like that sheet of paper in another way L-O-V-E conceals our blemishes, too The scriptures say. “Above all. love each other deeply, because love covers over a multitude of sins ’’ I Peter 4:8 NIV. Jesus had. and still does have, the authority to say to the worst of sinners. “I forgive you ’’ Their wrongdoing. like the dot on the paper, would vanish, covered by His divine love Peter personally experienced this miracle On one occasion, he w as so astonished by the Lord's miracle-working ability that he feel at Jesus' knees and said. “Go away from me. Lord; I am a sinful man But Jesus Briefly wouldn't go away Instead, he said to Peter. “Don t be afraid, fromnow on you will catch men.’’ Luke 5 8-10 NIN Peter’s blemishes his shortcomings. failures, wrongdoings were concealed beneath Jesus' infinite love This was the beginning of a very special relationship he shared with the Lord We can work miracles by expressing forgiveness, tolerance and pa Hence We have the ability to heal broken spirits, to restore severed relationships - to cover sin One example comes to mind A younger woman wanted to improve her relationship with her mother in See LOVE Page 7 First United Methodist day school registration First United Methodist Nursery School, 572 San Antonio St . is hosting registration for its small classes which feature field trips, music and aerobics School hours are 9 a rn to noon and programs are for children ages 2. 3. and 4 Call 625-4513 Calvary Baptist accepting applications Calvary Baptist Academy is accep ting applications for the 1987 88 school year The academy uses the Accelerated Christian Education curriculum which is Bible centered individualized and proven successful UBA is a ministr\ of Calcars Baptist Church located at 566 US Bl \N lf interested in Christian educa tion for your children, grades one through 12. call Pastor Bud Shockes at 629-0049 or 629-6674 Rivers of Living Water new Christian outreach Rivers of Living Water Christian Outreach announces its formation in New Braunfels The outreach meets each Sunday at lo ;u> a rn and 7pm In meeting room 273 at Kodeway Inn and each Wednesday at 7 to p rn at 158 Trail wood Bill “Bubba Findley is pastor of the church and invites the public to join him for a message •that relates programs that will help you be a tatter person and a See BRIEFS Page 7 Edward D.
