(Photos by Leslie Kriewaldt) CAD Chief Appraiser Richard Rhodes CUT researcher Lots Duggan Continued from Page I when he suggested the appraisal district assess the economy before raising property values. "You’re raising appraisals on properties and not seeing what the economy is doing," the unidentified man said. Rhodes said individuals can assist the appraisal district in determining the fair market value of their property by filling out a rendition form in the CAD office between Jan. I and March 31. ‘Tm big on renditions That would eliminate 80 percent of the disagreements," said Rhodes. "You know the property better than we know it." As the meeting wound down, CUT member Margaret Rayborn asked for support of County Tax Assessor/Col lector Gloria Clennan s proposal to consolidate tax collections and asked members to contact their various board representatives and oppose a similar proposal from Rhodes. Both Clennan and Rhodes have proposed plans by which taxing entities could contract with them to handle collecting functions cost effectively. Rayborn drew supoort from CUT members when she said, "Call your county commissioner and thank them for .standing up for our elected officials and then call your council and school board people and CAD board people and tell them you are not interested in CAD collecting taxes." Comal County Commissioners Thursday unanimously endorsed Clennan’s consolidation proposal and urged other county taxing entities to give strong consideration to Clen-nan's plan Earlier in the meeting, I/mis Duggan, a member and researcher for Canyon I.ake Area Citizens Associaiton, said Cl .ACA and CUT have joined forces to form one voice." "We are joining with CUT to protect our nropertv rights." Duggan told those in attendance We cannot be effective unless we have one voice " Herald-Zeitung (USPS 377 SOO) Published Sunday morning, Tuesday, Wednesday.
