New Braunfels Herald Zeitung (Newspaper) - April 3, 1987, New Braunfels, Texas Religious Focus Page SA    Herald-Zeitung New Braunfels Texas    Friday.    April    3,1987Cross of Christ the melting pot for prejudices By REV. RAYMOND D. REICH Pastor, Cross Lutheran Church The world today is desperately in need of love. We cannot pick up a newspaper without reading headlines of strife and dissension, of pride and prejudice, cruel discrimination on the basis of class or color, and growing hostility between the nations of the world Even in our own circle how much spite and bitterness still remains. But why Why should we. for whom the Savior who loved us loved him - whether he is black or white or red or yellow. The same Savior who gave Himself for us gave Himself for him no matter who he is or in what part of the world he lives, or how different his life and customs and language may be from ours. Can we hate any man whom our Savior loved and for whom He died? The cross of Christ is the melting pot of the ages, where smouldering hatreds, blind prejudices, destructive strifes, and life long enmities are melted in the all-embracing, warming love of Him who first loved us. and from whom comes forth healing and refreshing streams of Christian charity As the apostle Paul says: “The love of Christ leaves us no choice ” 2 Cor .V. 14 As John tells us in I John 4:11. “lf Cod so loved us. we ought also to love one another “ Has the cross of Christ broken our proud hearts1’ Has His love put our ‘bitterness to shame1’ Since we have found our peace with Cod in our precious Savior's wounds, have we learned to live at peace with all our ■brothers' He loved us Do we love Him and those for whom He died1’ Christ in PassoverBriefly Larry Brandt of Jews for Jesus will discuss Christ in the Passover at 6:30 p m today at St John's Episcopal Church corner of Guenther and Lee streets A pot !u k supper will be served and those attending are asked to bring overed dishes Bracken church to sponsor sale Bracken United Methodist Women is sponsoring the annual rummage sale April 4 from 8 a m to 2 p m in the church parish hall The church is located on EM 2252. off Interstate 35 Operation Light set at First Baptist On April 4 starting at I pm, members of First Baptist Church will be visiting approximately 2,boo homes in New Braunfels They will bt* giving the residents a gift a copy of the Cospel of John “It is out of a commitment to the Word ol Cod and to sharing that Word with those who have not heard it. that these members are going door to door delivering the gift of CiKKl News said organizers The Cospel of John gives a very clear ac count of Cod s love for man and His provision for rn a n t o h a \ e forgiveness os sins 1 This is the second scripture distribution in two years by h irst Baptist Church Last year's distnbu lions covered about I **1 homes Cndet the leadership of pastor Dr Cordon Graham, the church will eventually share the Cospel of John with every household in New Braunfels The scripture distribution is known as Operation Light, based on the scripture John I 4 “In Him was life, and the life was the light of men ” Lenten luncheon served at St. John's St John s Episcopal Church will serve a noon meal each Friday (lur mg Lent The homecooked meal will tx* served in the Parish Hall Tickets are $3 Prayer breakfast set by Church WomenUnited The public is invited to join in an hour of fellowship and supjxrrt the Community Service Center bv atten ding the sixth annual prayer breakfast sponsored by church Women Crated of < amal 1 ounty The breakfast I" scheduled April IO from 8 to 0 a rn at st Paul Lutheran activities building IHI S Santa Clara See BRIEFS Page* 7 A Local Assemble* Oe Dios (Spanish Assembly of God!
