was to play golf with President Ford or some other he would call his Joke writers and ask them for 15 20 lines that he could spon during the golf game that My friend also reminded me that Mark Twain A glib speech takes two weeks of arduous All speakers have joke books that they rewiew and constantly revise so they can insert fresh material into their speeches to keep the audience These zingers or one liners have been rehearsed so well that they appear to be Almost invariably they are Even the wittiest after you have been around him or her for a few will be found to repeat the same gag although perhaps with a different Being witty takes deep preparation and Humor to a certain be We simply must be alert to think can be To be we must be alert to allow our childlike behavior shine What makes children so at tractive Children are constantly explor ing and A child is a zestful full of risk and society gradually and progressively takes away our childlike personalities and most of us become boring We have personal and self Improvement but without life can easily become joyless I began thinking about this issue of spontaneity and childlike joy when a friend recently told me that an ac quaintance who knew me In college 25 years ago had described me a seriousminded Is that how 1 want to be remembered A serious minded student If I am to be a fully functioning human being who can in fluence and shape the lives of others in a positive I must have goals and but also spontaneity and childlike If the child is the father of the then I find myself midway through life a seriousminded So how does one cultivate spontaneity and childlike enthusiasm Here are some nonspontaneous thoughts Take a cosmic view of life Sure we all have but are they real ly that Important We have the pro blem of getting out of bed In the mor We have problems with our hus band or Problems with our Economists tell Is that we are in the midst of difficult financial Some people wake up in the morn ing and
