New Braunfels Herald Zeitung (Newspaper) - February 10, 1987, New Braunfels, Texas Friday last sign-up day for Feb. 28 women's forum Registration deadline is Friday to participate in a special women’s forum at New Braunfels High School Feb. 18. “Today’s Woman: Way to Grow” is the theme for the day-long seminar. The cost will be $17, which includes lunch and a style/hair show. “We’re really excited about this event,” said NBISD Community Education Director Barbara Doep-penschmidt. “There’s something for almost everyone. In addition, we’ve set up special tracks for people to follow so they can set their schedule to attend workshops exclusively on managing a business or on health or on parenting or Job skills. “Participants also will be able to view several special attractions. The American Association of University Women will have a special display entitled ‘Remember Mama’ she said. “There also will be commercial displays, a quilt display and a display of work by women artists. “We’re urging people to register for the forum by the deadline on Feb. 13,” Doeppenschmidt added. “You can get a registration form by stopping by NBISD’s Education Center at 430 W Mill or calling 620-6200.” Following registration at 8:30 a.m., the forum will start with a keynote speech by San Antonio TV and radio personality Mary Denman. She will speak on “Power : How to Get It, How to Use It and How to Keep It.” Immediately following that, eight workshops will be offered during the first session. These are: Family Law, led by Ken Brazle; Career Changes, led by Diane Kraft; Colors, Makeup and Fashions, led by Shelley Smith; Alcohol Abuse, led by Becky Milstein; Sandwich Syndrome, led by Dr. Marilyn Swinton; Active Parenting, led by Rusty Brockman; Breast Health Awamess. led by Pat Blanchard; and Beginning a Business with panel members Delores Smith, Marian Benson. Delores Burch and Debbie Barnett. The second session’s workshops will be; Stepmothers, led by Dr. Karen Brown; Re-Entering the Work Force, led by Maria Farrington; Nutrition and Diets, led by Claudia McMahon; Brith Order, led by Dor-thy Chestnut!; Financial Planning, led by Stan Cunningham; Fire Prevention, led by Martin Mayer; TV, Toys and Violence, led by Elizabeth Brummage; and Financing a Business, with panel members Bonnie Denson, Hanalore Brotze, Vicki Hollmig and Lena Slimp. Participants will be able to enjoy a salad luncheon prepared by Priscilla Hanz and then view a fashion/hair style show, coordinated by Larry Blinder, a local hairstylist, and Debbie Archer of Salge’s. The third session’s workshops will be: Resume Writing, led by Diane Kraft; Parent’s Greatest Gift to Their Child • A Good Self Immage, led by Dr. Forrest Smith; Legal Rights for Women, led by Carter Casteel; Heart Healthy Cooking, led by Joan Lyons; Learning Disabilities, led by Dr. Anita Stip-nieks; Silver haired Legislature, led by Lucille Biegel; How to Shop for Insurance, led by Dick Koegle; and Marketing a Business, with panel members Willie Tyler, Eva Weaver, Priscilla Ferguson, Barbara Tieken and Mary Ellen Landry. Fourth session will include the following workshops: Interviewing, led by Maria Farrington; Quality Childcare - What Makes a Difference? led by Dr. Beverly Schmalzried; Good Grief • Growing through the Losses, led by Judy Kovacs-Long; Time Management, led by Sarah Fox Davis; Kids and Rock Music, led by Bobbie Mueller; Coping with Premenstral Syndrome (PMS), led by Gail Post, R.N.; Family Violence Shelter, led by Alice Smith; and Home-Based Businesses, with panel members Vicki LaBonte, Anna Garth Clark, Debbie King, Melinda Winzeler and Jackie Schneider. Following that session, local aerobics teacher Sally Kingsbury will lead a short workshop on stretching exercises, followed by a surplus food sale. To register for the forum, participants need to complete a registration form and return it, with a check for $17, to NBISD by Feb. 13. Participants will receive a receipt and an individual packet as they arrive at the forum registration desk Feb. 28. A full refund will be made one week prior to the Forum date. If you find it necessary to caned, call NBISD Community Education at 620-6200. No refund will be made after Feb. 20. The women’s forum is sponsored by NBISD’s and Comal ISD’s Community Education and is in cooperation with Comal County Extension Service, AAUW, Senior Citizens Center, McKenna Memorial Hospital, NBHS PTA, North East ISD Community Education, Schertz-Cibolo-Universal City ISD Community Education and the New Braunfels Chamber of Commerce.
