conservation ByCARLENGLERTH District Conservationist The ComalGuadalupe Soil and Water Conservation District Board recently developed their annual plan of operation for The board consists of Alan Raymond Milton Daniel Harborth and Larry The board made plans to conduct four two fish a soil and grass judging conservation essay and poster contest and attend the various regional and state meetings on conservation programs besides taking care of routine ac Conservation tours The conservation district will sponsor four tours to romote soil and water conservation activities in the The first in a series of tours will be conducted for the ministers in the twocounty area to promote Soil Stewardship Week and to provide material for Soil Stewardship Sunday in This year the tour will be conducted district will recognize persons and organizations who have contributed to water and plant conservation during the past The third tour will be conducted in the Seguin area and will be on brush and weed control on cropland and improved The fourth tour will be conducted in the New Braunfels area on rangeland treat ment and grazing Pish sales The district also plans to conduct two fish sales in April and October this The district will assist farmers and ranchers with the op portunity to stock their ponds and encourage them in fishpond There are more than ponds in the local area which provide not only water for but for wildlife and recreation as FFA events The along with the Comal County Young also will assist the 4H and FFA organization in the art and science of soil and grass The district and the Young Farmers will provide for a soil and grass judging They will set up a contest to provide for the soil and grass judging teams in the local area to practice before their perspective Con testants will have the opportunity to learn more about soil characteristics and identify native plant species and how to maintain these resources through conserva tion Legislative involvement The district board also will take part in regional and state meetings in developing conervation programs for the future and recom mending legislation that will benefit water and plant Many legislative programs are presented to Congress each year for adoption that have far reaching ef fects on each citizen and how our natural resources will be maintain ed for future One of the major concerns of our
