Kerrville Tivy was the only loser, falling to South San West 19-14 despite a 14-point second-half comeback. In other games involving IMA teams, New Braunfels tripped Seguin 39-20, Canyon manhandled Antonian 49-0, Gonzales whitewashed Cuero 27-0, Hays whipped Southwest 21-7, Fredericksburg slashed Marble Falls 34-12 and Lockhart slipped by Bastrop 12-7. In San Antonio, South San West jumped out to a 19-0 halftime lead behind running back A.J. Miller, who scored three touchdowns and gained OI yards in 14 carries. The Antlers came back with a touchdown pass to Marcus Johnson and an eight-yard run by Glenn Kibbett in the second half. In Gonzales, the Apaches scored in every period to beat the Gobblers, a long-time rival. Clarence Owens scored on a three-yard run for the Apaches, who also got a touchdown pass to Ken DuBose and a two-yard touchdown run from quarterback Bobby Padilla. Dwayne Brozowski had three extra points and two field goals. At Hays, the Rebels’ Julian Alcala ran for one touchdown and recovered a blocked punt for another as Hays improved its record to 2-0. Hays rolled up 383 yards on the ground and 21 first downs. Alcala gained 139 yards on the night, while teammate Kevin Cox had 126. In Fredericksburg, the Billies recovered from last week’s loss to Hondo to pound the Mustangs. Marble Falls’ Anthony Metcalf returned a kickoff 92 yards for a touchdown in the first quarter, but the rest of the night belonged to the Billies. Quarterback Ricky Loth had two scoring passes, a 30-yarder to Carl Straube and a 61-yarder to Donald Brewer. Wade Reeh led the running attack with IU yards on 17 carries. Fredericksburg’s offense, impotent a week ago, ground out 355 yards. Lockhart marched 85 yards and scored with 4:07 left in the game as the Lions improved their record to 9-0. Lockhart tailback David Hill had 157 yards on 31 carries for the Lions, while quarterback Fritz Williams scored both touchdowns. In other 26-3A games, Pflugerville shut out Smithson Valley 30-0, Natalia blitzed Southside 49-7 and Cole mashed Poteet 404. Pre-season favorite Randolph, which has scored only two points all season, fell to lightly regarded Holy Cross 9-2 at Randolph. Holy Cross got field goals of 14, 41 and 38 yards from Mark Espinosa in the third quarter for all the points the Knights needed. Two of the Beld goals were set up by blocked punts. Randolph outgained the Knights 227 yards to ll, but the Ro-Hawks could not convert the yardage into points. Their safety came after they turned the ball over on downs at the Holy Cross 2-yard line. Bandera, which scored only 12 points last week, exploded for 31 Friday en route to a 314 shutout of Comfort. Quarterback Tim Butler hit receiver Steve Parker for touchdown passes of 48, 5 and 74 yards, while naming back James Compton scored on runs of IO and 6 yards. The Bulldogs are now 24. In Pleasanton, Boerne quarterback Trent Taylor scored twice to lead the Greyhounds to a 23-7 victory over the Eagles. Boerne led only 10-7 in the third quarter before Taylor scored on a quarterback sneak. Lance Schaldoer added the Greyhounds' final score. Cole, shut out a week ago, blitzed Poteet for 395 yards on the ground and 422 total yards. Tailback Bruce Galliard scored on runs of 45, 3 and 2 yards for the Cougars. Poteens only points came on a 76-yard interception return. Ted Stephens added two touchdowns for Cole, which is 1-1. Southside, a 32-14 victor over Mahon a week ago, found things tougher against Natalia.
