Manilow’s engagement earlier this year in the Uris Theater set a one-day Broadway box office gross record of $782,160, said Guinness Book of World Records editor Norris McWhirter. The engagement from Feb. 21 to March 5 also set a record as the fastest ticket sellout in Broadway history.Gatlin Brother a father again NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — Country singer Steve Gatlin has received a welcome, if belated, birthday present — a third daughter for him and his wife, Cynthia. Atibrie Lane, weighing in at 5 pounds, 4 ounces, arrived Wednesday morning at a Nashville hospital, just a little late for Gatlin’s 32nd birthday on April 4. The mother and daughter are in “wonderful condition,” a hospital spokeswoman said. Truman Capote reietMd from hospital MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) — Author Truman Capote says his recent illness is “a strange sort of thing,” but he was able to joke about it while leaving Baptist Medical Center after treatment for dizziness and disorientation. The 58-year-old author of “In Cold Blood” and ‘‘Breakfast at Tiffany's” wore black pants, a white T-shirt, purple wool scarf and dark glasses as he chatted with reporters Wednesday after three days of hospitalization. Continued from Page XA threat to kill, making a terroristic threat and two counts of possession of a weapon, a knife, for unlawful purposes. The aggravated assault charge was dropped Monday. The boxer lived with his wife, Usa, across the street from the victim and the defense claimed he was invited to her apartment and that she consented to their involvement. The Ayalas have since moved. DeMarco claimed in closing arguments Tuesday that charges against Ayala were the result of a “nosy woman who called police” when she was unable to determine “what was going on with her roommate behind closed doors ... which is nobody’s business.” In his summation, Assistant Passaic County Prosecutor Ronald G. Marmo called Ayala an “arrogant liar” with an “indifference to the truth.” Saunders denied two motions for a mistrial by defense attorneys Wednesday morning before charging the jury of six men and six women. The defense claimed improper comments were made by the prosecution during summations and that the prosecution introduced information that should have been made known to the defense before the trial began. Ayala is on IO years’ probation for assaulting an 18-year-old woman in a San Antonio drive-in theater restroom on Dec. 23,1978 — when he was 15. He pleaded guilty to that charge and was sentenced to IO years in prison, but a judge granted probation after the Ayala family reached a reported $40,000 restitution agreement with the woman’s family. Last August, Ayala was charged with burglary when he was found in a house in San Antonio holding a tag bearing the name of a woman who lived there. The woman told police Ayala had tried to strike up a conversation with her outside her house a week earlier, officials said. The burglary count and an accompanying motion to revoke probation were dropped after the homeowner, the woman’s brother, failed to press charges on the recommendation of authorities, said Terry McDonald, chief deputy district attorney in San Antonio. DeMarco said after Wednesday’s verdict was reached that reference to the August incident was damaging to his case. But Marmo said he felt that there was “overwhelming evidence" against Ayala after the victim and her roommate, a school teacher, testified early in the trial. “The two girls were so credible. If there was no other evidence but the two girls, no one could fairly sit in the court and believe they made it up,” said Marmo. He also said “I don’t think Texas did Ayala any favor” by not pressing the burglary charge. He said he believed that if Texas officials had pressed the burglary charge, Ayala might have been held there for possible violation of probation. We are going to have to be aggressive in going out and searching and offering packages of incentives ” He said, for example, that Austin had offered for the first time a package of incentives, including low-interest loans to employees, in an effort to persuade Microelectronics and Computer Technology Corp. to locate here. a a « ca a a a a ai ii * SISTER . ★ Bl VIRE W » a a a ♦    829-1888 a Come and see why you a are so unhappy Help in a love, business, health & a all family affairs » 7 AM TO It PM DSIIT a 241 Leap 337-Nwy. Wilson isn't looking to get intensive care here any time soon. But he has one ambulance, he says, that’s "almost ready to be classed advanced life support.” He needs staff paramedics, and a few more pieces of equipment, to cross that line. The difference is in degree of care. The way Tomasmi explained it, a basic unit, under ideal circumstances, can hold a patient in medical limbo until he gets to the hospital. "What you’re trying to do is stop what happened shock, trauma, heart damage) — keep it from getting worse," the paramedic said. Advanced life support can actually start reversing the damage. For example, it can start the heart beating again. "The quicker (patients) get advanced life support in the field, the more fully they’re going to recover. They’ll spend a .shorter time in the hospital, and have a better chance of full recovery," Tomasini said. "Our goal is to try to give the best possible medical care to our citizens,” said Wilson. The chief believes in training before equipment. That way, if he ever gets a defibrillator, he’ll be sure of having men on hand who know how to use it. "I’ve always said that our city manager and City Council are very progressive. If we show them we can do these things, then maybe they'll be willing to put out the money,” he said. Millions of Americans are asking tor reconsideration of withholding, and we the undersigned say “thank you" to the more than 320 Members of the House of Representatives and 50 Senators who are supporting repeal.
