costs will be welcomed by the family Memorials can be sent to Hayes Funeral Home Santa Pe Ikcas Judge Charles B Smith Jr GALVESTON Judge Charles B Smith Jr died at his home on November 27 1995 He was born in Galveston on March 1 1925 the son of Angelina and the late Charles B Smith He attended Kirwin High School Texas A M Uni versity and The University of Texas Law School receiving his degree in 1950 He was associated with Edward Jahn in the practice of law until 1952 at which time he became affiliated with the Attorneys Office in Houston Texas In 1955 he returned to Galveston to the law firm of Phipps Smith Alexander lat er Phipps Smith Herz In 1979 he was appointed by Gov ernor William Clements to the Judgesbip of the 56th District Court and in 1984 by President Ronald Reagan as Federal Mag istrate for the Southern District of Ifexas He served Of Counsel to the firm of Greer Herz Adams from 1990 until the time of his death Judge Smith was known for his dedication to his community and for his active participation in the civic affairs of Galveston He served as President of the Galveston Chamber of Com merce both in 1962 and in 1985 After years of service as Chair VICTORIAS FLORIST of the Galveston Country Club Charlie will be remembered for his love and devotion to family and friends his love of music and wine and his contagious enthusiasm for life He is survived by his mother
